  Our son has taken a huge interest in any sort of biking he can. We decided for his 13th birthday to take him here for his first nice bicycle and it did not disappoint. A salesman named Mike was excellent with my son, talking him through what sorts of things he wanted for his bike and a gentleman named Curtis came out from the service area to discuss some modifications that my son wanted and if it were possible on the model he chose. The experience was one that my son couldn't stop talking about with how excited he was and we plan on taking the bike back to put some upgrades on at a later date. Would highly recommend to anyone.

  I purchased my Cannondale Topstone Carbon 3 from REI Conshohocken this summer, and one of the benefits included with the purchase was free adjustments for the first year. Recently, I brought the bike back because the rear derailleur was shifting very poorly. There was a noticeable delay when changing gears, rough shifting, and the drivetrain simply was not operating correctly. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the bike service I received. The technician did not fix the problem and instead tried to convince me that this behavior was normal. What was even more disappointing was that they apparently did not check the derailleur hanger alignment, despite the obvious shifting issues. After leaving REI, I took the same bike to a Trek service shop. Within about 20 minutes, the technician diagnosed the problem, checked the derailleur hanger, found that it was misaligned, straightened it, and properly adjusted the rear derailleur. The difference was immediate — the bike now shifts smoothly and precisely through all the gears. I am very disappointed that something another bike shop was able to diagnose and correct in approximately 20 minutes was not properly investigated at REI, especially considering that I purchased the bike there and brought it in specifically under the complimentary adjustment service. I was also disappointed with the way the young technician handled my concerns. Rather than thoroughly diagnosing the problem, I felt that he was trying to explain away clearly incorrect shifting as normal behavior. I like REI and purchased an expensive bike there expecting competent after-sale support. Unfortunately, this particular experience with the bike service department was far below what I expected. I hope REI takes this feedback seriously and improves the quality of diagnosis and service in its bike shop.

  If I could give it a zero I would. This place should have Louis Vuitton on the building. This place is only for the rich. I've never seem such high prices in my life. REI used to be an affordable store for outdoorsman. Now it's a high end department store that only the wealthy can afford. T-shirts are $100. Long sleeve tees are $125. Unless you're a lottery winner or were born into a wealthy family, stay away.

  I don’t write reviews but feel compelled to leave something following a bad experience at the bike dept. Bought two of their new model rev 16” bikes for my twin boys as they grew out of their co-op balance bikes that are less than a year old. Bought them in the KOP store, can’t say enough about that experience, Russ in the shop there was amazing. He looked up the balance bikes we still had and said they are well within the trade-in window and were worth $44 each and that we should bring them into a store to get credit. Went into Plymouth meeting the next day and first was told “yeah I don’t think the balance bikes are eligible for trade”. Told them where I just was yesterday and to please check. Once he realized he was wrong he started scrutinizing the bikes and ultimately decided he wouldn’t take them because they were “too used”…they’re less than a year old and REI accepts trade ins on them for (I believe it was 7 years on that specific model). I asked in what way because they look in pretty great shape for a toddler bike and he pointed at the worn heads on the axle nuts. I said they’re $.75 nuts that I’m sure they have hundreds of in the back, just replace them? And he said he flat out wouldn’t take them. Went right back out to KOP immediately after where they didn’t even look the bikes over just accepted the trade in. Plymouth Meeting store is far more convienient to me but I’ll be driving out to KOP from now on.
