  I worked with Cassidy at the REI near Bridgeport and was so impressed by her professionalism, knowledge, and going the extra mile to help me purchase a bike for my son. I will return!

  Don't trust other reviews -- note how most of them are marked LOCAL GUIDE -- all those 5 stars are fake! This store sold us two mountain bikes as well as a hybrid bike (all Salsas -- NOT cheap!). First, they misrepresented to us that the tires were tubeless they were not. After we got the first flat and realized they were tubed tires and went to replace the tube, we discovered that the tires were ALL GLUED TO THE RIMS! That's only for tubeless tires. I had to work half the day to get one bead of the mountain bike unglued so I could replace the tube, and of course there was still adhesive that caused the tire to stick to the rim again even on that bead. We brought the bikes back to REI, asking them to unglue the tires from the rims. They were rude, obviously pissed we were complaining about them gluing the tires on in the first place, trying to beat around the bush, arguing that the tires were tubeless ready and that's probably why they were glued despite having tubes in them. Then we got a quote for the minor tune-up type repairs we wanted that was outrageous and included ridiculous line items like check bike for $92.00 and similar charges, so we said never mind to all that just unglue the tires from the rims, which they were pissed about having to do. The one manager guy of the bike shop argued with me that he got one of the tire beads off the bead easily using their shop tools but then he wouldn't even talk about the other tires giving me flack and saying look man I gotta go type of stuff -- and I know he was full of it I unglued that first mountain bike tire myself and it was GLUED solid AND I checked the hybrid bike tires as well -- one of which is the one with the bead he said he got off easily -- and there was no stabbing a screwdriver in between that tire and the rim those beads were GLUED SOLID too! THEN they charged us $10 per tire to unglue them even though they were the ones that glued them in the first place! This caused us a ton of time and damages. We had to drive over an hour each way to take those bikes back to the Tualatin REI that sold it to us after the Salem REI was unprofessional and wouldn't help with it, and they left everything pulled apart and flat didn't pump them back up even so we had to drive all the way home with the tires barely hanging on kept having to look back at the bike rack and make sure they were still there. Plus all the time and effort trying to unglue those tires in the first place to fix flat tubes, plus the beads are gouged and damaged now. I'm just amazed at how unprofessional and incompetent this store and bike shop was. Boy they're sure nice and helpful when you're buying something but not if there's a problem! Don't buy bikes at REI! Don't service your bikes at REI! There are plenty of smaller owner-operated bike stores and repair shops that have good prices and do better work and are trustworthy.

  I’m a complete snow dummy, and I came in to shop for my wife, who is a beginner skier. As it turned out, it was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. Carsen took great care of me. I happened to be his first customer of the day, and he absolutely crushed it. He made what could have been an intimidating experience surprisingly enjoyable. Not only did he give me helpful beginner-level advice, but he did so in a way that never made me feel bad for not knowing anything. I was genuinely impressed by his patience and the level of detail in his explanations, all delivered with a professional attitude and a friendly smile. He walked back and forth multiple times to find the right gear for my wife, pointed out things I should watch for as a beginner skier, and helped me choose the best equipment for her needs. He was truly wonderful. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Carsen received a raise or a promotion. He definitely deserves it.

  Decades of body shaming undone in one conversation with an absolute angel at the bike repair shop. She helped me understand, in like 5 minutes, why I have struggled my entire life to bike. I have no memory of her name but she’s basically Demi Moore and I am so grateful I cried when I adjusted my seat properly and could finally bike without struggling.

  I pre called to make sure I could bring in items to sell back to REI for a gift card. The guy on the phone confirmed that they absolutely do that at any location and no appointment is needed. He said it just takes some time to go through the items so be sure to have time to spare. Perfect. No problem. I drove 45 with the intentions to shop too, just to be greeted by a worker with excuses after excuse to not do her job. There were very few people in the store at the time. There was one person in line ahead of me that this worker was telling a story to. As he walked away, because he saw me walk up, she said "thanks for listening". Clearly she was SUPER BUSY. There was nobody in line behind me as she explained to me that they CAN look through people's items in store however they prefer you do it online because it "just takes SO much time" and it's easier if I were to go home, go through the steps online and then come back with what they would buy. Mind you, I had 8 items.... She then fumbled for several minutes trying to show me how to do it online when I did not ask for the tutorial in the first place. In that time she, or the other person standing at the registers waiting for someone to buy something, could have looked at my items. I told her that I pre called and confirmed that I could just bring the items in. And she repeated that "It just takes SO MUCH TIME" for them to go through stuff. Well, ok. I would understand if the store was super busy with several people in line, but the place was a ghost town. Their customer service is terrible.
