So I was on a ride with my friend, our route taking us through Lake Oswego, when I broke a spoke. Luckily, Lakeside Bicycles was a quarter of a mile away. I said bye to my friend and rode to the shop. When I got assistance in the Service Dept, they were, unfortunately for me, "too busy" to help me. Could they sell me a replacement spoke and let me borrow a wrench to install it myself? No. They don't lend tools. Ok, then will they sell me a spoke and a spoke wrench? Sure. I went out in the alleyway and spent 20 minutes trying to make it work but had to give up when I realized I didn't have another tool I needed and didn't want to go buy more stuff. I ended up going to the bus stop with my bike. I was clearly mid-ride. I even said so. I was wearing a helmet and cycling shoes. Being "too busy" to assist a stranded cyclist is not how local bike shops are supposed to work. My guess is that had I been on a $15K Pinarello I bought from them, they wouldn't have been "too busy." But as a working class guy on a merely $2K steel bike I purchased from a different shop, I was out of luck. I rate being "too busy" to help an obviously stranded cyclist as terrible customer service. ....... June 30: Mr. Haber: After reading your response below to my review above, I must briefly respond. Among the several nonsensical comments you make here, your claim that after having first been told I couldn't be helped I should have then waited around because your employee was going to help me after all, is simply absurd. And to end your response by 'shaming' me is preposterous. I'll be sure to share my experiences--and especially your response here--with any and all cyclists I know in the Portland area.

I was treated so well. Had a flat and they dropped everything and fixed right away. I was a little embarrassed bringing my cheap bike in, but they were non judgmental and even invited me to pedalpalooza:)

I purchased a Pinarello X1 from Lakeside Bicycles over the phone. It was an excellent purchase experience and an even better deal. All I had to do was provide a shipping label based on provided dimensions. The bike arrived in Southern California a few days after it was picked up in Lake Oswego. It had been expertly packed and there was no damage to anything. The bike has been excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending Lakeside. Thank you Eric, Mark and anyone else who assisted!
