  Seems better stocked than Cary and Raleigh locations. It takes 5 employees behind the desk to work 2 cash registers with a decent line?

  I am preparing a late summer hiking trip in Europe. I have visited this REI location in Durham at least 4 times since February 2026. The first time was to select new hiking shoes. The sales rep was very honest, knowledgeable and helpful. I decided on a pair of new Oboz which have been great. The next time I visited in March to look at travel backpacks. A sales rep showed me the available selections. I decided to my evaluate my luggage needs for a while. I visited in April and May and received no offer of any assistance. Their clothing selection for hiking or paddling has become very disappointingly limited. I saw very little paddle gear. No one greeted me. I have found hiking wear and the travel backpack I wanted at other local retailers all for a better price because they offered better discounts. I hope REI has something left to buy when my membership points become available to redeem in 2027. The lifetime membership doesn't seem worth it for me.

  Fantastic store. Far bigger than I thought. I picked up great boots on sale. But it was the whole shoe department that was fantastic. They are really good and helpful people. Will be coming back when I have more cash 💸
