  Basically the adult version of a candy store REI in Bozeman is dangerous for my wallet. Every time I walk in I somehow convince myself that I absolutely need another piece of outdoor gear. 😂 The staff here are consistently helpful and knowledgeable, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to figure out what you actually need versus what just looks cool on the shelf. I’ve had employees take the time to answer questions, help me compare options, and point me toward the right gear without making me feel like I’m bothering them. The selection is great, especially for the things you actually need living in Montana. Whether I’m getting ready for a hiking trip, camping, or just looking for something I didn’t realize I needed until I walked through the door, they usually have a pretty good chance of getting me taken care of. I’ve also had great experiences with the bike shop. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish the Bozeman location didn’t feel so cramped and overcrowded. I may be tainted by having visited the Billings store which is massive and feels like and outdoorsman’s paradise but the Bozeman store does feel very crowded even when no one is in there. Overall, though, this is one of those stores that feels like it belongs in Bozeman. Good people, good gear, knowledgeable staff, and everything you need to convince yourself that your next outdoor adventure requires approximately $400 more equipment than you originally planned on buying.

  Great place all around. Makes Bozeman a place you can enjoy! Here, people behave themselves in a way that coincides with people who live in Prague. For example, the biggest smile you get out of these folks is an upward frown smile. But here, at REI, the environment seriously gives you an exciting look at the best outdoor gear, with knowledgeable workers, presentable selections throughout the store, and great member benefits.

  No customer service whatsoever, even though there are more employees than customers in the store. They seem more intent on leaning on a rack and engaging with each other rather than the person that walked past them for the last 30 minutes, clearly in search of something. I checked out with what I had and was asked were you able to find everything? I told him no and explained the lack of customer service and where they were located and I got a “sorry about that, Here’s your receipt. You have a nice day.”
