I purchased the Trek Marlin 5 gen 3 along with a bontrager kickstand & water bottle holder. What a solid mountain bike! It shifts smoothly and glides across all terrain with the amazing 29" inch wheels configured perfectly for the flawless large frame. The lockout feature on front shock adds versatility along with the Shimano CUES shifter. The 1 and only negative I can think of is the kickstand placement. It needs to be about an inch closer to the back wheel. My heel occasionally hits the kickstand with my size 11's. Not a big deal but food for thought when redesigning future models. I do recommend a slightly bigger sprocket for more speed on level terrain since this bike glides so easily across it. Speed is maxed out quickly. Thank you Trek for such an amazing setup in the Marlin 5! Shout out to Eric @ the Trek Ballwin location! Great guy and very informative.

Let’s start with the simple one: - The team is bloody knowledgable, collaborative, communicative, and simply good people - They work to the best of their client, not the “almighty $” which is rare AND appreciated - They do all the legwork, paperwork, and warranty stuff (thank goodness) Then… - They’re friendly, they are there with advice, help, and willing to hang out and talk.. Etc… AND they got the new frame ALL sorted on the Domane…. What more can I ask for?!? Thank you to the team there!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Trek Ballwin was extremely disappointing.
I have owned Trek bikes for the past 30 years, which makes this experience even more frustrating.
I brought in my nearly new $4,000 mountain bike after the rear brake stopped working during my first ride in Colorado. Before that trip, the bike had only been ridden for about one hour, and the ride in Colorado lasted only about 45 minutes before the rear brake failed. The entire purpose of this trip was to go mountain biking, and my very first ride was on black-rated trails. Losing my rear brake in that environment was not only incredibly frustrating but also dangerous. I was forced to rely almost entirely on my front brake while descending technical terrain, which is far from ideal and significantly increases the risk of crashing. Instead of enjoying the bike the way it was designed to be ridden, the brake failure essentially ruined the mountain biking portion of my vacation.
At first, the service technician was helpful while inspecting the bike. After the inspection, though, I was told it needed both a brake bleed and a new chain, with the total coming to around $200 before applying our service voucher.
I asked why a bike with less than two hours of riding would already need a new chain and why the brakes had failed in the first place. Instead of giving a clear explanation, the technician implied that we didn’t know how to maintain the bike and insisted that I had ridden it much more than I said. When I asked if he was calling me a liar, he responded that he’d been doing this for a long time and could tell how much the bike had been ridden. He then said he could either help us or not help us.
The entire conversation became condescending and unprofessional. I wasn’t arguing about paying for legitimate repairs—I simply wanted an explanation for why such an expensive, lightly used bike needed them. Instead, I felt like I was being accused of lying and talked down to while the technician continued to make sarcastic remarks throughout the interaction.
After this experience, I have no intention of buying another Trek bike. Between having a major brake issue on a bike with less than two hours of riding and then being treated disrespectfully when I asked reasonable questions, I left with very little confidence in both the product and the customer service. After 30 years of owning Trek bikes, I expected far better. This experience has completely changed my opinion of the brand and the way its customers are treated.
