    My husband and I stayed there on our honeymoon. Beautiful location, the cabins are nice, and the owners are amazing! It is a drive but most definitely worth it!

    Gold Mine Camp was the perfect long weekend getaway that my husband and I were hoping for. We live about 8 hours away and the beauty, wildlife and serenity were completely worth the drive. I would call the cabins "semi-rustic" rather than rustic. Each cabin has a kitchen, a bathroom, and hot water. We even had a heater in our cabin though it was warm enough that we didn't need it. Having spent many seasons living out of a tent working as a trail crew leader for the USFS, I was very appreciative of the accommodations. The cabins are no-frills, inside you will find just the essentials. If you are truly trying to "get away," particularly to a place where you will be unplugged, the bare essentials are all you need. I love, love, love, that we were able to bring our dogs with us. Aside from camping, it is not easy to find a place where you can bring your pups. Speaking for Trey and Marley, they had a great time at Gold Mine Camp, sniffing, running around, receiving pets, and riding on the boat. It was so nice to have them with us for a change. The Vermillion River is so peaceful and beautiful. The colors were beginning to change and we saw lots of wildlife. In terms of the fish, we are pretty terrible (novice) fishermen and we still caught plenty of fish. It was a little rainy during our stay, however, the storms seem to move quickly through the area and we were able to get out on the boat pretty frequently. Lots of hiking in the area in the state and national forests, and Voyageurs National Park is close by. Orr has pretty much all of the essentials you would need (food, bait, beer). We had a great time and hope to be back next year!
