I am writing this review to document SERIOUS safety concerns based on our direct experience at this facility. Our family were members for several years, and my daughter participated in the advanced aerial silks program. Ultimately, the safety issues became significant enough that we immediately canceled our membership.
Aerial silks involves students working pretty high above the ground, where proper training, supervision, and equipment setup are critical. Over the years, I personally observed large class sizes with multiple silks in use at the same time, often with one instructor responsible for supervising many students who were performing different skills in the air simultaneously. In my experience, this made it difficult for instructors to provide close, individualized supervision.
There were also occasions where individuals supervising classes did not appear to have the same level of training as others. We raised concerns multiple times regarding instructor-to-student ratios, instructor training and overall safety practices. While some changes were made temporarily, the underlying concerns remained.
The incident that led to our immediate withdrawal occurred shortly after the facility reopened following a holiday closure. An advanced student noticed that multiple silks were improperly set up, with fabric rubbing directly against exposed metal rather than protective padding. This resulted in visible fraying(reported by my daughter not seen by me) of the silks. These silks have been in use for multiple days, and even the class prior and were not identified by several instructors prior to the issue being raised and corrected by a student. I later reviewed a video from my daughter’s class taken two days earlier and observed the same setup.
I contacted the owner to ask about equipment inspection procedures, responsibility for setup, and how this issue went unnoticed and who from the state does inspection of the building. I have not received a call back or a response to cancelation e-mail.
Given the inherent risks of aerial silks and the height at which students are working, proper equipment setup, frequent inspections, adequate supervision, and appropriately trained instructors are essential. Based on what I personally observed, we no longer felt comfortable allowing our child to participate.
Families considering silks classes here should carefully ask about instructor training, class sizes, and equipment inspection protocols before enrolling. I would suggest speaking to the instructors directly vs the owner as the answers may be vastly different. I am sharing this review to document our experience and the safety concerns that led to our decision.
