  I struggled with whether to write this review because I wanted to ensure my comments were based on the facts of the situation and not simply influenced by exhaustion from extensive travel. On May 16, my team and I checked into Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor on are around 5:15 Am. after being awake and traveling for nearly 28 consecutive hours due to military duties. The initial check-in experience was excellent. The young lady who assisted us was professional, courteous, and empathetic regarding our difficult travel circumstances. The room itself was also very clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed for a short period of rest. Unfortunately, my checkout experience was the complete opposite. Because of my exhaustion, I mistakenly believed checkout was at 1:00 PM instead of 12:00 PM. I came downstairs to check out on or around 12:23 PM and asked for my receipt. At that point, the front desk manager informed me that I would be charged for an additional night due to late checkout. I immediately apologized and explained that I had clearly confused the checkout time after being awake for nearly 28 hours. I respectfully asked if an exception could be made considering I was around 20 minutes late, the room had barely been used, housekeeping was already nearby, and the hotel would still have ample opportunity to prepare and resell the room. What disappointed me most was not necessarily the policy itself, but the manner in which the situation was handled. The manager’s tone and responses throughout the interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational. At one point, I was told, “You can’t read,” while being directed to review notes on the desk from the previous shift. I remained respectful throughout “most of” the conversation and simply requested professionalism and understanding. Things did escalate after she eluded to that I cannot/see or read the notes the over night agent left on the desk. I want to be fair in this review because everyone can have a difficult moment or stressful day. However, the contrast between the outstanding professionalism during check-in and the treatment I received during checkout was significant. After more than 20 years of military service and extensive travel, this was one of the most unprofessional customer service interactions I have experienced while traveling for official duties. I was not seeking special treatment because I was in uniform, only a reasonable level of professionalism, courtesy, and understanding regarding an honest mistake made under exhausting circumstances. The hotel accommodations themselves were very good, but the checkout interaction unfortunately overshadowed an otherwise positive stay.

  A group of us went to a comedy show last night (4/24) in one of the event rooms...It was a good show but it was very uncomfortable as far as seating...NO Tables...I mean how are you supposed to clap if you are holding a drink? The "dining chairs" were very close together and let's face it there is no shortage of "plump" people in Maine. I think comedy shows or any interactive event should have tables.

  Requested a certain room, most rooms have mattresses that need to be replaced and are showing their age. Casino has also taken a turn for the worst. I like blackjack and they kept changing the tables and now the have taken out the remaining two tables and replaced them with blazing blackjack. So I will be expanding my choice of casino options, please bring back the only table game that I and many others enjoyed, hint if you have to stand by the table waiting for players to leave, you may want more of these.
