I went for my birthday August 16 and it was a power outage. Due to the power outage there was no AC in the rooms, my refrigerator wasn’t working, and all the restaurants were shut down, it wouldn’t have been a problem if the front desk lady had told me all those complication were arising when I called to confirm my stay. I should’ve been aware before I even made it there!

The rooms are Hot, good luck with the AC. The beds are hard. The bathroom was nice. The tv options are extremely limited. No Netflix or subscription sign in options. All of this is to get you down to the casino... unless you are CONFINED TO YOUR ROOM!!!!
Please continue reading for the rant email about our horrible stay at the Ameristar hotel.
I have emailed you twice with no response. So here is my review/email.
I booked online through your website. I did NOT use a 3rd party (which I was accused of multiple times). As you can see, we made a reservation that included children. You can see in the attached chat, she told me how to add children to the reservation. Well children are NOT welcome! It was a huge scene when we went to the counter to ask how to get to the restaurants. I had already checked in thankfully because they said we would have been kicked out. We were treated horribly! We were told we had to "stay in our room"! "The children cannot be seen or heard, and security would place a camera on the room!" "If you leave, you must go straight out!" "The only reason you are allowed to stay is because we already checked you in!" “You better not leave your kids in the room alone so you can go gamble!” (I would never! I didn’t plan on gambling to being with! I got the hotel for the beach.) "You can order food online, one of you will pick it up and take it back to your room. "They can NOT be in the hall!" "If they are seen or heard, you WILL have to leave!"
My children are 4 and 6. Do you know how scared they were? Two women yelling at us that we can’t do anything or we will be kicked out...
None of this is our fault! I booked WITH the hotel, paid $600 (just for the room), and was treated like crap! We spent several hundred dollars at the restaurants (over three days) (for to-go containers). My boyfriend went to the casino just to get out for a while. This totaled over $1,000.
The rooms are hot and beds uncomfortable, all to get you over to the casino. Which is fine… unless you are confined to the room!
We drove 5 hours. We couldn't get a different hotel because of a festival, everything else was booked. I booked our room at Ameristar months ago. I was accused of not checking the website for age restrictions. The very bottom has the standard "Must be 21. Gambling Problem? Call 1-800-9WITH-IT or text INGAMB to 53342." But nowhere did I see "no kids in the hotel" and I wouldn't have looked for it because your rep in the chat said kids are fine.
I spoke with several people, none of them have heard of a hotel that doesn't allow children. The casinos are always off in a wing. The French Lick Hotel near our home is family friendly with the casino in one of the wings off the hotel.
We didn’t get any kind of apology, discount or comp for this inexcusable event. You don’t have to worry about us coming back!

5 stars! Ameristar Casino in East Chicago is a really nice venue with tons of parking and great valet service. Huge shout out to Keshia working the front end, the bouncers checking identification, and the friendly folks bartending this evening—thanks for helping me take a much-deserved break from the Uber app! The staff inside in the fancy red suits were also super helpful, guiding me to the cage to find my membership and update my contact info. I had a unique experience navigating the map while delivering outside food and watching the burger place switch to a new cuisine menu in ten minutes. Plus, I downloaded their app and immediately won $20! Awesome spot with excellent customer service. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

On 5/18/26 I reserved a non-smoking room directly through the Ameristar website, but when I checked in 7/25/26 I was told my room wasn't available and was initially assigned a smoking room instead. After about 30 minutes, the staff finally "found" a non-smoking room. To make up for the inconvenience, I was told the Facilities Fee would be waived.
A few days later, I discovered the hotel charged me $100.80 for that same Facilities Fee anyway. When I called, a representative confirmed the fee had been noted as waived in my account and told me the charge would be reviewed and credited. That never happened.
To make matters worse, after that phone call an additional unexplained charge of $28.32 appeared on my credit card. I never authorized any additional purchases after checking out. When I called again, I was promised a return call from a manager, Clarice, but no one ever contacted me or explained the charge.
The Facilities Fee was also never disclosed during the booking process on the hotel's website. Had I known about it, I likely would have stayed elsewhere since we were only in town to attend Pierogi Fest and simply needed a place to sleep.
Mistakes can happen, but charging guests fees that were promised to be waived, adding unexplained charges after checkout, and failing to return calls or resolve the issue is unacceptable. I cannot recommend staying here.

Absolutely horrible experience. I moved out here from Florida. Needed a place to stay for a few weeks until my place was ready to move in. Upon arriving, the room smelled like weed. Even though I was on a non smoking floor. Literally the entire place excluding the casino itself stinks like burnt weed. Not sure who cleans the rooms but my deluxe king room was absolutely nasty. Stained blankets, sheets, and towels. There was black mold all over the grout in the shower. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned and sanitized in years. I ate at the Sportsbook restaurant every night and the food was actually really good. But way over priced. The counter girls taking orders are super friendly. I ended up going to the Sportsbook bar one night for a couple drinks and some food. Upon arriving, the bartender looked visibly annoyed that I was even there. I ended up eating and heading to the casino for a bit. I went back to that same bar to get another drink. I was then turned down because “they were too busy and short staffed”. Sorry but that’s not an excuse. Nobody was even ordering drinks. They told me to try one of the other bars in the casino. I went to check them out only to find out not one bartender was present. I went back and she told me again to go to another bar. Horrible experience for spending over $3500 for something I thought was going to be enjoyable. Beware of this place. You will get 1 star service at best.
