I couldn’t find anyone to help me. Then, when I finally found what I needed, Alex at the register was so distracted he seemed high.
I’ve been a member almost 25 years and the service isn’t what it once was.

We have been shopping at REI for many years and have always had positive experiences, which is why today’s visit was so disappointing.
I came in looking for a pair of shoes and was helped by a woman named Sandra (I believe that was her name). Throughout the interaction, she came across as unfriendly and annoyed. At one point, she asked me to pick up a shoe box from the floor and hand it to her so she could scan it, which felt a little odd. I remained polite the entire time.
Unfortunately, none of the shoe sizes worked for me. When I thanked her for her help before leaving, she didn’t respond, just gave me an annoyed look. It made me feel unwelcome.
I work in customer service myself, so I understand that everyone has difficult days. However, kindness and basic courtesy make a big difference, especially when interacting with customers. This experience was very different from what I’ve come to expect from REI, and I hope it’s not representative of the store as a whole.

I had an unsettling experience with the cashier. She tried to sell me the membership. I respectfully declined. She seemed upset about my decision (wait am I not responsible for my own money?), and barely said goodbye as I left the store. What is wrong with not being able to afford the membership? Do we need to be judged for our own money decisions now? I’ll try Sierra from now on. Thanks REI, see you later when you are less agressive with your customers!

The staff here are so incredible!! The power went out today when a bunch of people were trying to check out and all the staff really worked their hardest to get everyone checked out as fast as possible! Joy - who helped me - was truly amazing and so helpful even though the system wasn’t wanting to accept my gift card! They helped me find a work around and were just so kind and patient the whole time!! Truly great people working here!
