  Very disappointed with our experience at this store. The staff were disorganized and, unfortunately, some of them came across as arrogant and dismissive. At one point, one of the staff members at shoe department left us in the middle of our conversation and started helping another customer. When we tried to get his attention again, he completely ignored us. We understand that the store can get busy, and we’re happy to be patient, but there needs to be some basic communication and mutual respect. Being told to “be patient” while being ignored is not a great customer experience. We left feeling very disappointed.

  I placed a pickup order for a Nikon Monarch M5 8x42 binocular, a full-price item that costs over $300 before tax. I was extremely disappointed with what I received. The box was already open when I picked it up. After I got back to my car and took a closer look, it was obvious that the binoculars had been used before. There were even bits of grass/debris still stuck on the binoculars and on the carrying case, as if no one had even bothered to clean or inspect the item before handing it to me. It got worse when I tried the binoculars. The eyepiece lens cover clearly does not fit the binoculars properly. The cover is far too large—it can sit loosely over the eyepieces, but it cannot stay attached and simply falls off. It is basically unusable. I ordered and paid for a brand-new, full-price product, not an open-box or used item with dirt on it and an incorrectly fitting accessory. I honestly cannot understand how this passed REI’s inspection and was considered acceptable to fulfill a customer pickup order. Very disappointing quality control, especially from REI. I expected much better.

  They locked all the jacket, so you need to be lucky to find a staff first, and asked them to help. VERY inconvenient.

  Be aware of theft and keep a close eye on your belongings. Someone stole all of our credit cards and cash while we were sitting on a bench trying on shoes. They took the cards and cash but put the wallet back, so we didn’t realize what had happened right away. We may not have been the only victims. When I left, I noticed a keychain sitting unattended on the same bench. I would strongly recommend keeping your belongings on you at all times while shopping here. I called the store manager afterward to report what happened, hoping they would take the incident seriously and consider steps to prevent this from happening to other customers. Unfortunately, I found the response dismissive and was left with the impression that customer theft was not a significant concern to the store. To be fair, many of the staff members we interacted with were friendly and helpful. But a positive interaction with individual employees is different from feeling that the store takes customer safety seriously. I hope REI will pay more attention to theft in the store and take steps to make customers aware of the risk.

  I went in to buy a pair of shoes and they only had one person working the department, Theo, who was trying to help multiple customers. After waiting for a few minutes I found two other workers that were wandering the floor and ask for their assistance to which they refused, as it was not their department, and they kept ambling through the store. I continued to wait 15 more minutes for assistance while poor, overworked Theo was fielding 4 customers at once with more waiting and other customers interrupting him during his tasks. Theo is a hard worker. In the end, even though I asked for assistance, I left without being helped. If REI can't staff their stores then they’re not worth shopping at.
