  I was assisted by Sophie today and wanted to give her a shout out for providing me with excellent customer service over the phone. I had called the call center and when they couldn't help, they advised me to contact the store directly. Sophie was the one who assisted me. She was able to assist me via phone which saved me a trip to the store. She was friendly and efficient. We liked the Santa Rosa location as well. It was a one stop shop for everything we needed to add to our camping trip last weekend. They had everything we needed and every staff member we encountered provided friendly service with a smile.

  I brought a bike in for warranty repair because REI is a Canyon Repair partner. However, REI didn't fix the brakes correctly (excessive play) by simply bleeding the port, when I came back to pick the bike up. I had to ask the mechanic to do it, and the dirty look that he gave me was quite off-putting. He also didn't insulate the interior cables correctly resulting in sounds from inside the frame, which forced me to bring the bike back to have them repair it after I discovered the issue. He didn't install the rear brake caliper correctly and the brake rotor was rubbing. He didn't index the gears correctly resulting in a lot of chain-chatter The manager was nice enough, but they service employee I was dealing with was rude and couldn't even muster a smile.. Sorry I have money to buy a nice bike, I didn't want to bring it to you for service either, just like you didn't want to service it... Definitely will not bring my bikes back to this location in the future. I usually take my bikes to Trek in Santa Rosa and they fix the bike correctly the first time, smile, and have good pricing. REI might be good for run-of-the-mill bikes, but definitely don't bring your top-of-the-line bikes in for service. Their lack of smiling, enthusiasm and inability to repair a bike correctly on the first try is a deterrent from me ever stepping foot in this store again.

  ⭐ 1 STAR — Extremely Disappointing Experience Absolutely horrible experience at the REI bike shop. I brought in my own wheel to have a hub swapped, and I was initially quoted $140 for the job. I received an email saying the wheel would be ready in four days, so I waited. Four days came and went — nothing. After I reached out, I finally received a call two days later telling me they hadn’t even started the work and that the price was now going to be another $100 for spokes. That was completely unacceptable. I already had access to the correct spokes for around $20. If there was going to be an additional charge, that should have been communicated clearly before taking the job and making me wait nearly a week. Then, two days later, I get another call saying the wheel is ready. Except it wasn’t really “ready.” They essentially built the wheel and handed it back bare bones — no tire installed, no cassette installed, and no rotor installed. And here’s the part that really irritated me: they wanted to charge me another hour of labor just to install the cassette. We’re talking about installing a cassette onto the freehub — something that takes minutes. I was honestly shocked. I’ve used this same REI bike shop in the past for a similar wheel build, and the experience was completely different. A few years ago, I paid around $140, and the wheel was properly put together without all of these additional charges and headaches. This time, the whole experience felt like they were looking for every possible opportunity to add another charge instead of actually helping the customer. The lack of communication was just as frustrating as the pricing. To make matters worse, I was asked to sign a release of liability essentially because I didn’t pay extra for them to install the tire and cassette. At that point, I couldn’t help but feel like the entire experience had become ridiculous. A bike shop should make things easier for the customer, not turn a straightforward repair into a series of unexpected charges and delays. I won’t be returning to this location. After being a previous customer, I expected much better. Extremely disappointed and definitely not the level of service I expected from REI.
