I've never used anything aside from boots on the trail, so he gave me a lot of insight and showed me many options including different widths. Ultimately I got a pair of altras, and put about 5 miles on them so far which felt great. The rest of the store was nice and well stocked.

Such attitude does not deserve my business. There is good selection of products but it is not worth it, I would rather buy online or from the brands themselves.
