Excellent shop for outdoor equipment. Wide range of options to choose from. They also sell used gear.

I've always experienced great service at REI. Today was no exception. Neal did his very best in helping me find just the right walking shoes. He was knowledgeable, patient, and very nice. Unfortunately, they didn't have the size/color I wanted but the service was excellent. Aram was also very nice in helping me find a backpack. They didn't have what I was looking for but I appreciated the help in searching the store and the site.

As the author of The Most Crucial Knots to Know and The Motivated Amateur’s Guide to Winter Camping, I like checking gear setups at REI locations, and REI in Northridge is a solid stop. Parking is very easy here, and when I visited the lot wasn’t busy at all, which made getting in and out simple. The store has a slightly different layout. Climbing and camping gear are well represented on the main level, with a good selection to work through. Toward the back, there are restrooms, which is always useful in a larger store. Clothing and shoes are upstairs, reached by a nice wooden staircase that adds a bit of character to the space. It separates the store in a way that works well and keeps things organized. The climbing section stands out, and overall the store feels focused and practical without being overwhelming. As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series and SERA Archives, I also pay attention to how real gear is used and presented, and places like this help keep those details grounded. Overall, it’s a good REI in Northridge with a clean layout, strong selection, and easy access.

Third time I've been in this store and it will be the last, and here is why; 1st time I go to buy pair of boots and after looking and standing around for what is longer than it should be I finally get help. That's fine these things happen 2nd time; My wife is looking at backpacks and I start having a conversion with a customer over the collapsible chairs, very light easy conversation, then a staff member wanders up and joins in, again all fine, but the focus of his conversation was getting kind of personal with this poor random women, asking about is she single and what she does for a living, she working in the music industry, and she was not comfortable. 3rd time, and this is the one that ha left me angry. I enter looking for trail runners with my wife for my wife. Again, staff ignore her I approach and ask for help and I'm told "I'm going home now,I will get someone" again fine BUT this guy then proceeds to serve another person and his replacement ignores us. Way too many pork customer services incidents for me to spend anymor here in future
