I would NEVER pay to play here again — and apparently I needed a second visit to remind myself why. We had a 7:45 AM tee time in 108° heat and somehow still managed to play a 5-hour round. That almost takes talent. (BTW summer in AZ courses are typically wide open) By the time we finished, the course was backed up nearly 50 minutes. No marshal anywhere. Apparently the pace-of-play strategy here is just: keep selling tee times until the parking lot is empty. I called the pro shop twice begging for a marshal. The woman who answered was rude and put me on hold for about 10 minutes. Fortunately, that wasn’t really an inconvenience because we were already waiting 10 minutes between shots anyway. The craziest part? I paid around $80 today, but I had the exact same experience two years ago in February when I paid roughly $375. So at least they’re consistent. Whether it’s $80 or $375, you too can enjoy the thrill of standing on every tee box wondering if the group ahead has moved since the last presidential administration. Two years ago I swore I’d never come back. Today, they rushed us to the first tee… only for us to arrive and find the group in front of us still waiting to hit their first shot. That was the moment we knew. We were screwed. As for the course itself: the fairways were FIRM — and I mean airport runway firm. The greens were rough. The range is probably the best part of the property, which makes sense because it’s the one place where you can actually hit golf balls without waiting 10 minutes. I understand golf courses need to make money. But there’s a difference between running a profitable tee sheet and stuffing human beings onto a golf course like it’s a Southwest boarding process. A five-hour round in 108° heat with no marshal isn’t just slow golf. It’s basically a survival challenge with cart paths. If you enjoy waiting, sweating, calling the pro shop for help, getting put on hold, and then waiting some more — this place absolutely delivers. For everyone else: there are way too many good golf courses in Arizona to put yourself through this.

Played 18 here with a buddy and had a great morning. Course was in excellent shape tee to green, the greens rolled true, and pace of play was reasonable. The Scott Miller layout gives you plenty of room off the tee but still makes you think, and the mountain views on a clear Arizona morning are hard to beat. Staff from the bag drop to the pro shop treated us like members. As a former collegiate golfer I play a lot of courses around the Valley, and Kierland is one I keep coming back to. Highly recommend.

Played Mesquite/Ironwood today. Fairways were dry, and one side was recently aerated, but conditions were at least as good as anywhere else in the summer. All four nines are super playable, scenic, and fun. Wide fairways, big greens, and a complex layout. The staff were excellent as always both inside and outside the shop. I think it's by far the best value (at summer rates) of any of the resort and high-end courses in the area. You can't go wrong here.

I came out for a round with three friends, all of us adults who have golfed extensively across the state, from budget courses to upscale ones. Based on the reviews and the price point, we had high expectations. From the start, we were repeatedly approached by employees about our pace of play, despite being no more than seven minutes behind at any point, and with no group behind us waiting on us at any hole. The interruptions themselves contributed to our slower pace, which made the whole situation feel counterproductive and, frankly, disrespectful. When we finished the front nine, we were told we'd have to replay the same nine holes rather than move on; again citing pace, even though we were only five minutes behind and not holding anyone up. That said, the Ironwood course itself is genuinely well-maintained and enjoyable to play. Replaying the same nine actually gave us a chance to appreciate it twice, so there's a silver lining there. It's a shame, because the course quality is there. I just hope management takes a closer look at how their staff interacts with guests, especially when pace enforcement isn't actually affecting anyone else on the course.

Played May 30 2026. Very very slow- they had a tournament that was not told to us when we checked in and the starter did not tell us. Talked to a marshall once on 3- never saw a marshall afterwards. Very very slow- never again.
