Guardian Training & Consulting recently visited Prescott Shooting Range, and the experience was outstanding from the moment we walked through the door.
Josh Reyes welcomed us at the counter with genuine friendliness and professionalism. We went through the same process as any new customer. The waiver was simple, and the safety video clearly established expectations for safety, conduct, and range rules.
We then met Steve and Stacy Booher, the new owners. Anyone reading older reviews should understand that many previous low ratings were under former ownership. Steve and Stacy have made major improvements to the classroom, facility, staff, and overall culture.
What stood out most was customer service. Steve and his staff treated people with dignity and respect. They were not simply operating a gun range. They were true ambassadors for the firearms community and our industry.
Maya Angelou said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” That perfectly describes Prescott Shooting Range. Their staff made people feel welcome, respected, safe, and valued.
I also met Elvin Lightfoot, one of their instructors, who welcomed us professionally and discussed training with me.
Inside the range, I met Steve Brown, the Range Safety Officer. Steve did not know my background or experience level. He treated me with dignity and respect while maintaining clear safety expectations. He did not talk down to me or make assumptions. He was observant, professional, safety focused, and provided exactly what I expect from an experienced Range Safety Officer and instructor.
I also watched Steve Booher and Steve Brown work with a family of four visiting from the Netherlands: a husband, wife, daughter, and son. They were visiting the United States, Arizona, and experiencing something truly unique about our country: the right to keep and bear arms.
For many Americans, that right can be easy to take for granted. For visitors from another country, safely handling and firing a firearm provides a firsthand look at a freedom rooted in American history, individual liberty, personal responsibility, and the right of ordinary citizens to protect themselves and their families.
Steve and Steve did not treat the experience as entertainment or novelty. They presented that freedom the right way, through safety, education, patience, respect, and responsibility. I offered to take pictures of the family together, and they left smiling, happy, and safe. More importantly, they left with a positive understanding of Arizona, America, responsible firearm ownership, and what our gun culture should look like.
That matters.
For context, I am the founder and Director of Training for Guardian Training & Consulting, an NRA Law Enforcement Staff Firearms Instructor, a USCCA Training Counselor, a former police officer, and a United States Air Force Security Forces veteran. I travel throughout the country teaching firearms, use of force, instructor development, and human performance. I also serve as an expert witness through Logan & Partners in firearms training, use of force, human performance, and instructor standards.
My team and I teach at law enforcement agencies, national instructor conferences, tactical officer associations, and professional training facilities across the country.

My wife and I recently got back into the world of firearms after a long hiatus, and honestly, we weren't sure where to start. Like many beginners returning to the sport, we felt a bit overwhelmed. However, from the moment we walked into Prescott Shooting Range & Gun Club, those anxieties quickly disappeared.
From the staff at the check-in counter, to the Range Safety Officers, and even the owner, everyone has been welcoming, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in helping us learn. Every question we've had—whether it was about firearm handling, equipment, specifications, range etiquette, or improving our shooting—has been answered thoroughly and in a way that was easy to understand without ever making us feel intimidated or overwhelmed.
The professionalism and supportive atmosphere have made every visit enjoyable and have given us the confidence to continue developing our skills safely and responsibly. It's clear that the staff care not only about safety, but also about creating a positive experience for shooters of all experience levels.
