  We visited the Birmingham REI so that I could be fitted for a 3-5 day backpack. Nic assisted us in evaluating each pack and trying them on as well as fitting them with and without weight. He was knowledgeable and helpful and contributed to a great overall experience in getting us ready to section hike the Pacific Crest Trail.

  They basically attack you with their membership. I had 3 different staff members ask before I got to the register. When I did with one of their returned items I found out that you have to pay their membership fee to buy those items. Terrible experience, lady at the checkout was incredibly rude.

  We were planning our first ski trip and Amyleigh did an amazing job helping us. She knew what base layers we would need and gave us recommendations for any other gear we would need at Northern REI locations.
