I wanted to love this store since I’ve always been well treated at Trek shops. However, I’ve rarely felt as disrespected as I did tonight by the manager Ricardo. At checkout, I respectfully told him that I disagreed with the price being charged for the service. Instead addressing my concern regarding the price, he didn’t say a single word to me and went back to my bike and undid the work he had done, telling me to leave the shop because they don’t provide free labor. There are a thousand better ways to treat a client in this situation. I would probably have paid the amount if he had simply told me “I’m sorry we didn’t contact you with an estimate, but this is the regular fee” or if he had said “I’ll give you a discount this time, but next time you should know it’s this much”, or whatever else. Note: when I dropped off my bike, I left my phone number with him and asked him to let me know how much they would charge me beforehand. I asked them to replace a bolt from the integrated cockpit, which could require drilling it out and potentially re-bleeding my brakes if they had to remove the bolt from the inside of the cockpit. However, the mechanic didn’t replace the bolt, he just tightened my handlebars with the same bolt. Therefore, he was charging me for tightening a bolt. And I’d still need to bring the bike somewhere else to replace the bolt. When I said paying $20 for tightening a bolt seemed expensive, he completely removed my handlebars from the bike. I want to make it clear that it’s not about the $20. I was just surprised that (1) he hadn’t done the service I had asked for (replacing the bolt), and (2) was still charging me for it. If I thought that tightening the bolt was everything I needed, I’d have tightened it myself. But the bolt lost its tread and the handlebar is too loose with this bolt.
