We made our reservation over the phone, and after spelling the card holders name SEVERAL times, the wrong name was put for our booking and email. Meaning we never received our confirmation email or got any information about check in time etc. When we arrived and were unable to use the kiosk to check in (because the name was spelled wrong) someone came to help. However, this woman believed she knew how to spell our names better than us and got snappy with us when we tried to correct her. “Yeah that’s what I put, an R.” When there is no R whatsoever in anyone’s name present. She did not apologize and still acted like she knew better than us. I don’t know if it is because we are younger guests, but it was really ridiculous that we were disrespected before we even got checked in.
Once we did check in, we had to pay an early check in fee. Very frustrating when we never received a confirmation email due to a mistake on The Golden Nugget’s employees part and didn’t know the check in time or the fees associated.
Bathroom sink drained extremely slow and got even worse throughout our stay. Black debris would float up the drain and coat the sink and a nasty sewer smell filled the bathroom and eventually the room.
Front desk also would send me to different lines to wait and then tell me to go to a different line and wait and then go to the front counter and wait and someone would be there to help me. After standing at the counter for 20 minutes and at least 6 employees walking past me and making eye contact with me, someone stopped and asked if I was waiting… ridiculous question. Why would anyone stand at the counter for 20 minutes staring for fun? Then I was PROMPTLY told that what I was there for was not ready yet. Extremely frustrating to spend 40 minutes trying to accomplish a task and being passed off and disregarded for absolutely nothing.
Finally, housekeeping was great. Very kind and attentive, I enjoyed passing them in the hall and speaking with them. CFA workers and the store workers next door were amazing as well. No fridge or microwave in the room so unable to store any food or drink that was bought on the property.
Overall, I don’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a peaceful and non aggravating stay.

I attended a New Year’s Eve event at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino and initially had a great time. The event itself was enjoyable, and earlier in the evening the atmosphere felt lively and fun.
However, after midnight, the casino floor took on a very different and concerning vibe. While gambling, I noticed groups of young THUG individuals being extremely loud and disruptive. There was horseplay, fighting, and people bumping into customers who were actively playing slot machines. In addition, there were numerous prostitutes throughout the casino—approaching men, lining up at the bar, and even present in the restrooms. I also encountered homeless individuals in the restrooms.
What was most alarming was the lack of visible security. I saw little to no security presence on the casino floor or near restrooms, which made me feel very unsafe. For a casino of this size and reputation, this is unacceptable. Management seriously needs to reconsider their security policies, including checking IDs and room keys at the doors, especially during major events. Nearby casinos do this and it clearly helps maintain safety and order.
Because of these safety concerns, I do not recommend this casino. The Golden Nugget needs to do better by hiring more security staff and enforcing stronger safety measures.
On a positive note, the bartenders and hotel staff were excellent—friendly, professional, and deserving of a thumbs up.

UPDATE: Inconvenience? Your response is laughable and representative of the poor customer service that seems to be standard for your establishment. Our final day on vacation was ruined. We will not be returning. The casino also smells terrible.
We requested and were promised late checkout since we had a spa appointment after the standard checkout time. On checkout day, housekeeping woke us up to tell us to leave by the standard time. When we followed up with the front desk, staff tried to charge us extra money for what had already been promised. Since we had been promised this for $0, we declined. Staff broke the promise.
We are spending nearly $500 at the spa, and now that experience is negatively tainted due to the surprise stress this morning around checkout and broken promises.
I sent feedback via the online form and will update this review if GN can make up for this abysmal experience.

What a great location on Fremont Street, right in the action!! The rooms we had in the Carson Tower are huge!! No view to get excited about ( unless you like watching cars enter and exit a car park 😀) but pretty standard rooms, nice and quiet, good air con/heating and the bathroom is functional (once you figure out you need to pull OUT the shower mixer to turn it on 😃).
The pool was closed (it’s winter ❄️) and work is being completed on the pool deck so we didn’t get a close up look but it does look pretty cool.
The Casino is pretty much the same as the others in the area, dominated by slot machines and having to hunt down affordable tables to play. This seems to be a trend.
The negative for the Hotel is the check-in, it’s all automated, I couldn’t find another option. There was a staff member there to help navigate it if needed but otherwise I felt on my own. Gone is the traditional welcome, explanation of the Hotel layout and facilities and overall let’s make the guests feel welcome. I assume this is a more efficient and cheaper option for the Hotel, but it has lost that personal touch in my opinion.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

Mixed Stay: Great Casino Fun Overshadowed by Security Intrusion, Poor Management, and Smoke Issues
Rating: 2/5
I recently spent 4 days at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, attracted by its iconic downtown location on Fremont Street and classic Vegas vibe. Although it was closed the famous shark tank pool is still a unique highlight.
On the positive side, the casino gaming experience was excellent—the tables were fun, and the dealers were consistently friendly and engaging, contributing to an enjoyable playing atmosphere.
However, several serious issues significantly detracted from my stay. My non-smoking room was plagued by the strong aroma of cigarette smoke permeating through the vents or walls, making it uncomfortable to sleep at night. The air filtration system clearly needs upgrades to properly maintain non-smoking standards.
The most unacceptable incident occurred on my third night. Despite a clearly displayed “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door handle and no housekeeping requested during my stay, two security personnel arrived unannounced and pounded aggressively on my door—like police attempting to force entry. This was alarming and intrusive. I later learned this was supposedly a “welfare check” due to not using housekeeping services, but ignoring a visible “Do Not Disturb” sign and using such heavy-handed tactics is completely unjustified and points to a severe lack of training in guest privacy and basic customer service.
I might have overlooked this as a policy misstep, but the front desk and security management’s response was dismissive and unprofessional. When I reported it at the front desk, I was redirected to the security desk on the casino floor. The security representative (GNLU) took my details, but supervisor Mike Allen refused to meet with me and instructed that I file a complaint online. I couldn’t find any complaint form on the website, so I returned to the front desk to speak with the hotel manager—only to be denied and sent back to security in a frustrating loop. The front desk manager confirmed this runaround was all they could offer, showing no empathy, apology, or effort to resolve the issue on-site.
Overall, while the casino delivered fun gaming moments, the security overreach, inadequate handling of complaints, and persistent smoke in a non-smoking room made for a disappointing experience. Management needs to prioritize better staff training, guest privacy, accountability, and ventilation improvements. I won’t be returning and can’t recommend it based on this stay.
