Hunting Rocky Mountain Elk under the direction of Kaitlyn and Strite Daniels has everything to do with elk hunting and almost nothing to do with hunting. Don’t get me wrong, we harvested 2 magnificent bull elk. What this expedition was truly about was entering an intact, non-compromised wilderness-area. The Bob Marshall Wilderness Area is a big, wild, place. It is both exceptionally beautiful and sublime at the same time. Looking at the maps prior to our departure did not prepare me for how big and sprawling this place is. When you enter the grasslands and parklands found on the upper mountain slopes, dominated by fescue bunchgrasses and the other broadleaf forbs the valleys are fully unadorned, stretching to the horizon and beyond. On one afternoon in these parklands we watched 11 Golden Eagles in migration, using the updrafts along the upper ridges to move south. On two separate afternoons, we had encounters with a large male Grizzly Bear. This place is resplendent and Kodachrome-like. Kaitlyn and Strite Daniels are phenomenal leaders who will guide you on a World-class wilderness adventure.
What makes these outing first class is Strite’s knowledge of this place. The Bob Marshall Wilderness Area requires years of experience to understand the best routes and trails. The Daniels’ Percheron / quarter-horse crosses are superior to any horses I have interacted with - true mountain horses. These horses are easy to ride, sure-footed, kind, and gentle. Strite’s first concern is always safety. Second, these people are absolutely honest, candid, straightforward, and easy to understand. Third, there are no hidden cost. You do not end up paying for housekeeping, petrol, sundries, or other hidden or secondary costs. The leadership, accommodations, meal preparations, horses and mules are near perfection.
I have been associated with museums, NGO’s, colleges and universities, and have put expeditions and outings together into remote localities. The Bob Marshall is not a simple place to enter. You might struggle dearly if you tried to go into this wilderness by yourself on a hunting trip. Kaitlyn and Strite Daniels were incredibly helpful. I have nothing but good things to say.

Strite and Kaitlyn are new owners of the Montana Wilderness Lodge, we had the experience of blending with their family and freinds for a partial guided and partial DIY hunting trip. Food was fantastic, and the cabins are nice, with major plans to invest in their future. Located in the heart of one of the most beautiful places in Montana and maybe the world. Highly recommend a fishing trip, a Bob Marshall guided hunt, or just a lodge hunt, look forward to seeing this young couple grow their family and their future!

We had a five day family reunion, for the guys of the family, at Montana Wilderness Lodge in late June of 2025. Most of the time there were at least twenty of us in attendance, and twenty four on occasion. Activities included rafting, fishing, hiking, photography, shooting firearms, saunas, a little cold water swimming, and evening campfires with BYO adult beverages. The cabins were rustic and homey with sinks, toilets, and showers as well as comfortable single beds. Food was excellent and served in the lodge, home style at breakfast and dinner, and sack lunches were provided for the mid-day meal. We did not use the horses, though they were available, and the lodge helpers were pleasant and available whenever needed. We had a wonderful experience, start to finish, and built many wonderful memories. I highly recommend Montana Wilderness Lodge, its people, and its location to anyone interested in an outstanding back-country experience.

Had a great time hunting in the Bob Marshall wilderness area. Strite put in a lot of hard work. The horses and mules were well trained and the food was great. I got a 6x6 bull elk on the hunt and was happy with the experience
