Last winter I signed up for a 6 month program and being winter is here I wanted to share Pros and Cons for anyone who is considering GT
Pros -
Great Instructor and Technology - Oliver has a vast amount of knowledge and is generally a good guy (Not considering that he likes the wrong Primer League Team - COYS) The hitting bays themself where scheduled for refurbishment last summer so I do not know what improvement they are making but there where already great - the multi camera view is eye opening
Cons -
Scheduling - For me it is about a 30-40 minute drive to GT and sometimes the motivation to drive 40 to hit balls for 30 minutes was hard to come by - Also the lesson and practice times get filled up quickly and it can be hard to keep a pattern.
Clarity -
When they talk about lesson credits it is important to know they are 30 minutes. Oliver did recommend to set a 30 minute lesson followed by a 30 minutes practice session this worked well.
Managing Expectations -
I am not a good golfer and I went in looking for improvement and I do see improvements in many aspects I do feel that I am not the target market as this place is more geared to a 5-10 handicap becoming near scratch than a 20 handicap just looking to get lower and not get laughed at (as much)
Cost -
I can tell you that they do a yearly sale around August and I was able to take advantage of that but still it was about $1800 for me This included 15 lessons, "Unlimited" 30 minute practice sessions (Keep in mind it was had to find back to back) And a Club-fitting - I recently had one at PXG and I did not do the club fitting.
Conclusion
If I could go back to last August I woudl not have done this. It was a lot of money and there are other options like lessons at the Golf Dome in Maplewood that are more of a better choice for this Hack - I am hitting the ball better and have a lot more confidence but I think that came from just more playing an awareness that can be acquired for a lower price. Oliver was awesome but it was just not the right fit for me. If you are looking to get to single digits form a 10 and have the time and a GT close - it is a great fit but for the average golfer it might not be the right path.
