The golf course, with its classic looks and style of play, is an eighteen-hole championship daily fee course, designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones Jr. Reminiscent of the private clubs of the twenties. The Orchards challenge the golfer by permitting a variety of approaches to each hole. Looking for the perfect golf course in Macomb County to host your next corporate or charity golf outing? Played at The Orchards on Sept 12th as part of an outing. The course is in great shape, but the management and course marshalls need a little more tact and understanding. After our 1st 2 holes, they stopped us and told us we were 7 minutes behind the group ahead of us and falling behind. We explained that their grass cutters were going back and forth across the fairway and did not even bother to look and see if there were golfers, so we had to wait. Then on the next hole, the grass cutter was there again and to make matters worse, there was a guy on the green, blowing off leaves. This was at 8:30 in the morning. The marshalls did not seem to care and continued to blames us. They pretty much followed us around the course and every other hole or so told us again we were behind. finally, on the 8th tee box they told us we were 22 minutes behind the group in front of us, which was hard to believe as we saw that group on the 9th teebox. She told us we were holding everyone up and when we looked back at #7, there was no one in sight. Then on the 9th tee box they told us we had to move up to the 150 mark and tee off to catch up, or just skip the hole. We skipped the hole. Funny thing is, we never saw a marshall on the back 9.
Also, we had a steak dinner after our outing and the cooks were told that we were supposed to be in at a certain time and regardless if all our group was finished, cook the steaks. I tell you honest, the steaks were somewhat warm, but were like eating a piece of rubber. I love steak, but did not bother to finish mine. We will never play The Orchards again.
I also heard from some of our outing that play the course off and on that it is the same thing every time....marshalls running around telling golfers to hurry up, even when there is no one behind them. I understand that concept, but to tell a group they are holding people up when no one else is on the course is just
bad management and it is hard to play golf when "Big Brother" is watching you every move

we got there on time ( 2 people) to be told “finally you’re here” then as we started there were people already teeing up as soon as we hit the ball. we were placed with another group but got many reminders that we were moving too slow, we then separated and started to keep pace but then we were followed through holes 3-7 and essentially we were told this course wasn’t good for us and we should go elsewhere, we stayed and played and even got free golf lessons which is nice but do not come here if you are learning or a beginner golfer they do not care and do not want you here.

Absolutely love playing the Orchards! Grew up in SE Michigan and still love coming back every time I’m in town!! A+ staff and course is always in impeccable condition for as many rounds as they get. I wish they had a course like this in Nashville! Give ‘em a try.

I can tell why the orchards was voted best golf course in Macomb county. Beautiful course, lovely clubhouse. The pro shop has a great selection. The bar is good amount of options, they were out of glizzys when we hit the turn around 6:30pm, kind of disappointing but not a big deal. Now to the course, I found it pretty challenging but very doable. Very well kept up. Greens are fast. Big sand traps that are very well kept. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. If you in the area it’s a must play
