The product selection is good - not overwhelming variety and items tend to be high quality. Of course, they do carry more budget friendly items and you often get what you pay for, but I feel they do a good job of curating, rather than just going for volume. I still have the first mess kit that an REI employee helped me pick out about 10 years before the OP location ever opened! It’s held up as promised!

She went above and beyond in helping me find and gather everything I was looking for. She was great to have a conversation with. I’ve never had customer service like that in my life. She deserves all the recognition in the world! I almost never leave google reviews that’s how satisfied I was. I can’t wait to shop at REI next time!
