  I have floated the Middle Fork of the Salmon River with Idaho Wilderness Company 15 times in the last 17 years. I have been a very loyal customer of IWC. After returning from my trip this year, I sent an email to Steve Zettel, owner of the company, wanting to discuss what I considered unsafe operations which occurred during my week long trip. His reply to my email stated "Hello Mike, After a thorough discussion with the entire crew it was unanimous that IWC is no longer the outfit for you and you are no longer welcome on our Middle Fork trips in the future. It has been obvious for many years that you are not willing to conform to the IWC way. We feel that you should utilize one of the many other quality outfitters available." Loyalty is a one way street with Mr Zellel. I immediately sent another email asking exactly what I had done or not done "for many years." After 109 days, I have not received a reply. This year, I was personally responsible for 7 other people coming on this trip. Two years ago I brought 12 members of my family on the trip. I express concern one time and I am told I am not welcome. You couldn't pay me to float the river with Idaho Wilderness Company.

  We visited in 2022 with four college friends. It was all of our 40th birthday so this was a reunion trip. It was honestly the trip of a lifetime and I cannot say enough how much all of the IWC we visited in 2022 with four college friends. It was all of our 40th birthday so this was a reunion trip. It was honestly the trip of a lifetime and I cannot say enough how much the IWC did to create lasting memories. The guides are all incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and hard-working, they go out of their way to show you a really good time and make sure you enjoy your trip! We had so much fun we are all bringing the families back next summer! Cannot wait to float the middle of the salmon with Idaho Wilderness Company again! 10/10 update – we went back again summer of 2025 and took the entire family. Once again, trip of a lifetime with incredible guides and an incredible company. They truly go above and beyond to ensure safety and a good time! 🫶 IWC!

  Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience down the Middle Fork of the Salmon. Steve, Jess, Ty, Tanner, Steven, Tristan and Dylan are phenomenal people!! Their work ethic, attention to detail and great personalities are hard to put into words. As for the previous review that mentions the "owner yelling and threatening to deflate a raft" - I can say with confidence this is not the full (or likely accurate) story. Steve was awesome on our trip and nothing short of a pleasure to be around. Our safety and having a good experience were his top priorities.

  Just got off the river with this fantastic crew, Steve, AJ, Herbert, Ty, Tristan, Tanner, and Spencer. Trip of a lifetime. My wife and I felt safe and taken care for the entire time. The food was super. The tent and sleeping bags were comfortable. Unbelievable respect for the natural environment. I would not hesitate to go on another trip with them.

  We have been on several multi-day whitewater trips and these folks ROCK! The food was delicious and plentiful, and each and every guide was helpful and competent. The Middle Fork is on of the top rivers in the country, and Idaho Wilderness is one of the top outfitters. Highly recommended.
