Do NOT bother playing here.....we played the cheaper course first, which wasn't cheap. We got stuck behind a slower than slow 2 some that refused to let us through and the round was well over 5 hours. The next day we booked a 1:50 tee time on the Royal course....we showed up at 1:18, my wife went into the clubhouse to change clothes as they loaded our bags. The starter immediately walked up and asked if I was ready to go, I said our tee time isn't until 1:50 my wife is changing inside, he rolled his eyes and walked away.....3 minutes later he came back and said are tou guys ready to go? I again said, my wife is changing and our tee time is 1:50, he walked away. 2 minutes later he walked up and asked me again if we were ready to go, and again I informed him, No, im waiting for my wife and we have plenty of time before 1:50..... he stormed off rolling his eyes....about 2 mins later again, he come up and rudely says....SIR ARE YOU READY TO GO?? My wife's was now coming out the door and it was 1:29.....I said can we go to the range and warm up? He huffed and said yes, but you have to carry your bags there, so its that ir you can head out now......my wife said its fine, let's go.....we pulled up to the first tee to find a 3 some waiting to tee off since the 4 some in front of them had just teed off. Less than a minute later a 2 some pulled up behind us, and less than 2 minutes later, another 2 some was pulled up behind them......at this point I already knew our round was ruined.....agyer 6 and a half holes and more than 2 hours in, I called the clubhouse to ask to speak to the manager. They gave me the guy at the pro shop desk....I told him what was happening and asked if this was standard practice for the course.....he paused and said, Sorry but there isn't much I can do for you but took my name and number and said, I'll have the manager call you......that was mire than 2 days ago and I still haven't received a call......so again, DO NOT book or play these courses.....they obviously dont give a damn they just ring the bell, take your money, and say Bend Over.....Absolutely the WORST experience we've ever had in more than 30 years of golfing.....

The Kaanapali courses are the most overpriced golf courses on the island! Stay away. The greens are terrible and the tee blocks are dried out. I come to Maui at least once per year and will not be playing either course again. I was charged $300 yesterday for the Royal course. These courses aren't worth more than $100. Go play the Wailea courses. They are the same price and are PGA quality. The service at Wailea is much better as well.

Nothing to write home about, they charge as much as they do because they can I guess. No great views, course in okay condition, pace of play was great so it gets two stars! Not worth the price imo.

Golfed both the royal and Kai courses at Ka’anapali. Royal was beautiful and maintained well. Kai was a bit rougher. Not as maintained as well and prices have gone up.

This rating is based on the current conditions. We have played it in the past when it has been much better. We WERE warned that there were “about 7 greens that were in rough condition because of a fungus” so we were getting a $100 “discount”. Sadly it turned out that EVERY green was in rough condition just some worse than others. They were impossibly slow and shaggy. Not worth it for even the “discount” especially when we played two other perceived “lesser” courses for the same or less money and their greens were excellent Not worth the $ even with the discount until conditions are improved. Very disappointing when you are expecting a premium experience.
