We won't be staying here but need to make people aware of their drip pricing practice which is illegal.
In searching booking.com webpage, not app, for accomodation for a mini break with my 2 dogs, I had a filter on allowing for only pet friendly accomodation, found this place that was just within my extremely tight budget so proceeded to book one of their pet friendly options (non refundable as I couldn't stretch to the refundable option). I was then contacted by them after booking advising I will need to pay another £45 per dog in order for them to stay. This was not listed anywhere remotely apparent on the webpage, had I known this I would not have booked it!
Upon re checking booking.com website, not the app, right down at the very bottom of the page, way past the accomodation options and useful info, buried in a drop down menu it says the charges may apply for pets but you have to go digging for this information and it is not clearly apparent at time of booking and it is not clear what the charges are.
By not making additional charges clear at time of booking this is known as drip pricing and is illegal to do!
I spoke to booking.com and the Lakes at Rookely about this, advising them what they have done is illegal and they are both passing me back and forth between them like a girl on a casting couch, saying they can't help me, the other one has too.
All I'm looking for is a refund of the money paid because they falsely advertised on the site that I was using. I do not care if they list it elsewhere, as they have claimed, it was not on the webpage I used and the law states it must be prominently displayed, not in drop downs, not fine print and certainly not on a different site or portal.
Do not book with them, or if you do prepare for hidden fees.
I have prepped my evidence for small claims and it should be a slam dunk, but it is a shame that neither company will do the right thing considering what they have done is blatantly illegal.
