I last visited this Caravan site as a child some 60 years ago and was a little reticent to expose myself to disappointment.I need not have worried, it was as peaceful and unspoilt as it had ever been. As the warden pointed out “ It was probably only the height of the trees which had changed!” Both the relief and regular wardens were welcoming and helpful and managed the site completely efficiently. All the water and chemical toilet disposal points were sparkling clean and there was a useful supply of leaflets relating to local attractions in the office. The location is second to none with a gate leading down to Lake Derwent just 20 yards from our pitch. The caravans are all located with the shady canopy of Manesty Wood so an awning or certainly a door mat is useful and, of course, you do need to have independent toilet and showering facilities. This is a small price to pay for such a location from where you can walk across the boardwalk to the Lodore Falls hotel for coffee or indeed walk into Keswick itself. For the less energetic there is a regular lake boat which picks up and drops off at various points around the lake. The access to the site is along a narrow road and crosses a double hump bridge in Grange but, as it says at the entrance, “ Difficult journeys lead to beautiful locations” My husband, I and our two pointer dogs had a wonderful relaxing week and would certainly return again.

Fabulous site nestled in the woods on the banks of Derwent water. Can walk to boat launch from the site. Ample walks direct from site including a 5mile lakeside walk to Keswick. We've already booked our return!

Our first time ever in the lake, and clearly 3 nights here is way too short! Absolutely love the site, loved how close we are to the stunning view!

Love it at Barrowdale, so peaceful and easy access to some brilliant walks. The site feels like it's in the middle of the woods with all the wildlife around you. It is a bit of a squeeze getting here as there are some narrow roads but it's well worth the steady and careful drive. The wardens are polite and very helpful. There is no shower or toilet block so you'll have to self sufficient, there is EHU, fresh water, grey water disposal and chemical loo disposal.

This is a wonderful caravan/motorhome site nestled in the woods with walks along the lake and Keswick. There is a bus which you pick up from the road and you can take a boat from the lake. The pitches are hard surface and level and feel private. They all have electric hookup. There are services for grey and black water but note they have no showers or toilet blocks so you need to have that onboard your vehicle. For those wanting isolation, it's very peaceful. You feel truly disconnected, however there's also good internet over 5G so you can still watch YouTube etc if you're feeling too relaxed. Amazing place, well worth a stop. One final note: the caretakers are wonderful and very helpful.
