This park is so much more than a place to breeze through for the weekend. It truly is a unique little community, colored by a constant stream of new faces from all over the world. I came to Thousand Trails Peace River at a difficult crossroads in my life. My self-confidence, in addition to my faith in other people had taken a pretty good beating. Choua, the park manager has been extremely accessible and accommodating. She made it simple and efficient to set up a long term stay, coordinating with their corporate team as well. Nathan, the membership specialist she connected me with, was straightforward, timely and empathetic. The young ladies in the office, Selena and Morgan have always been kind and patient with me. My one regret was that i didnt have to travel so much for work so that I could have spent more time here. I always appreciated the friendly wave and greeting from Wameng at the front gate when I got back in town, though. The park itself has incredible trails that can make you feel removed from the hectic world in just a few minutes' walk, meandering through hilly cypress swamp and eventually along the river. If you are in search of the real Florida, spend some time here and in Wauchula. The town itself is full of warm, genuine people from all walks of life. Even walking through the W**mart you get the sense of pride the community has. Full of fantastic home cooking and central and south american food. Get a horchata and hit the massive farmers market, or head either was on sr64 for a variety of hikes or paddles. This park has honestly brought me back to life. This is the Florida I know and love.

I stayed at Thousand Trails Peace River during peak season and overall had a really positive experience. This is a large, very social campground with a lot going on, so if you enjoy an active atmosphere and meeting people, it’s a great place to stay. One of the first things I appreciated was how easy the park is to spot from Highway 17, which makes arrival much less stressful — especially in a big rig. The internal roads are paved and wide enough to navigate comfortably. Sites vary a lot depending on where you’re placed. Some are near the highway, some sit in full sun out in the open field, others are shaded under live oaks, and some are closer to the river. The park slopes toward the water, so some sites are perfectly level while others may require blocks. Not all sites have concrete pads, so it’s best to come prepared for that. Utilities are solid overall. Most sites have water and electric (50/30/20), though many don’t have sewer. The park uses a honeywagon system with weekly service included, and there are also dump stations if you prefer handling it yourself. Propane delivery to sites is available, which is a nice convenience. There are plenty of amenities and activities — pickleball, shuffleboard, trails, community events, and indoor spaces — and during my stay there was something happening almost every day. The lodge and office area were especially nice and well maintained, and the staff were consistently courteous and professional. The Peace River itself is a big highlight. People fish, kayak, paddleboard, and even search for fossilized shark teeth. There’s lots of bird life, and yes, alligators are possible — very Florida. I visited during a dry stretch, which meant more sites were open. Since part of the park sits on a flood-prone field, availability could be different in wetter conditions. Also worth noting: during busy season, things like laundry and honeywagon scheduling can get crowded — but even then, the grounds still felt well maintained. At night the park gets pleasantly quiet, though you can hear some highway noise. Lighting is minimal, so a flashlight helps for walking around after dark. I felt comfortable here the entire time, even walking the grounds and trails by myself, and I would definitely stay again. If you want a full walkthrough of the park layout and amenities, I also filmed a detailed video tour you can find on YouTube under my name.
