Many of the bikes are hanging from the ceiling so truly a useless experience without an associate. I walked out frustrated after 15 mins.

I found many great products at good prices, but what really stood out to me was the attention I received from the store’s team. The girls who helped me in the Hiking/Camping and Hiking Shoes sections were amazing — super kind and very knowledgeable. What amazed me the most was the attention I received from Mellisa at the front desk. She was extremely kind and made me feel very welcome. As I said, I’m not from the USA, but if I ever come back, I will definitely visit REI Co-op again — mostly because of the wonderful people.

I am well aware that REI is on the pricier side, but I have always told people that it’s worth it because of the extremely helpful and knowledgeable employees. I explained to the person helping me today that I have an upcoming hiking trip, haven’t hiked in years, and need a lot of help. We were starting with hiking boots and he did recommend a pair. However, he brought them out to me and disappeared. At a MINIMUM I would think he would’ve assisted with unpacking all of the inserts and untying the laces and getting them ready for me to try on. I had questions about trekking poles, socks, layered clothing, snacks, etc. and was unable to find anyone to assist with these things so I just purchased the boots and left. Can’t help but feel that I probably should’ve just ordered them off Amazon from the beginning after this experience. One other thing is that I tried to trade in my former hiking boots (which are in EXCELLENT condition as they have only been worn on a couple day hikes) and was told they were ineligible for trade-in. Although they were purchased many years ago, they literally look brand new and have no visible wear on the soles or anything so this doesn’t really make sense to me. 🤔 Regardless, I’m wondering if this has to do with this particular location on this specific day or if, like essentially everywhere else in South Florida, good Customer Service simply no longer exists. ☹️
