EDIT TO ADD:
Shout-out to red-haired boss Chris K. for his endless patience with my ski questions. He was always around and checking in. Nice to have a skier to ask questions, as I found most of the workers for snowboarders. Thanks boss man!
Dani A. was superbly helpful and patient! I resized my boot a few times because of my problematic feet and he greeted me warmly each time! Dani patiently checked in about different fit aspects on the boot and made me feel very welcome. As a novice skier, I plan to keep coming back to Northstar and it would be a joy to see him next season! An asset to the team for sure.

Woefully understaffed and inefficient. Waste ALL of your morning waiting in a line to pick up your equipment. Took more than 1.5 hours to get equipment. They should be refunding a half day lift!
I don't think it's the employees fault. Seems like they just don't staff enough to handle the loads - management prefers to make customers waste their mornings standing in line that adequately staff to get people in and out in a timely manner.
Seriously. What is going on here. Boot, board, and helmet fitting is not a complicated affair.

One Manager’s Rudeness Ruined What Was Always a Great Rental Spot
Picture this: It’s February 8, 2026, around 10:30-11:00 AM. Fresh powder outside, good vibes all around, and we’re walking into a rental shop that’s been a reliable favorite for multiple seasons. High-quality skis and boots every time, friendly staff who actually help dial in the right fit and gear for your skill level. In the past, they’ve happily applied a discount when using a friend’s Epic Pass no drama, just a nice little perk that made the experience even better.
This time, my friend (who has the Epic Pass) and I step up to the counter. I politely ask the manager (name tag: Taylor) if we could apply any discount using her pass, like they’d done before. Nothing pushy just checking, since the price difference was small and I was fine paying full either way.
His reaction hit like a sudden whiteout. Eyes roll hard, face twists into pure contempt, and he snaps: “What discount? Where’s YOUR Epic Pass?” I explain it’s hers. He stares at her like we’re pulling some scam, then barks, “I’m the manager—no discounts!” Turns to her directly, ignoring me: “Are you paying?” I jump in: “No, I’m paying,” and mention it worked fine last time. He doubles down, voice rising: “No! I’m the manager. That’s not possible.”
The air turned thick. We stood there stunned - no “sorry, policy changed,” no polite explanation, just raw, unnecessary hostility over a simple question. We paid the ~$115 in awkward silence and walked out feeling like we’d been slapped for no reason. That warm, welcoming vibe? Gone in seconds, replaced by humiliation on a beautiful morning.
This is strictly my personal experience from that one visit, and my honest, subjective opinion. Maybe I misread the situation. Maybe Taylor was having the worst shift ever. Maybe other customers get nothing but smiles from him. The rest of the team has always been awesome, and I’m not here to trash the whole place over one bad apple.
But rudeness like that zero professionalism, zero courtesy when I approached politely and in good spirits crosses a line for me. I don’t forgive or forget being treated with outright disdain. As a direct result, I’ve decided: no more rentals here. Thanks to Taylor’s attitude, I’m finally buying my own gear and moving on.
I hope sharing this helps prevent similar awkward moments for others.
1 star — solely for that morning.
Former happy repeat customer (until now)

We’ve had a great experience at this ski rental. The staff is extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. They were so friendly with my son and really did their best overall.

Horrendous experience. The guy at the check in / snowboard rental shop is 100% incapable of helping people with shoe fittings, grabbing snowboards, etc. He just stands around looking into space and doesn’t offer help and does not keep track of where he places people’s shoes nor checks in the equipment upon return. The snowboard lesson had 15 people to one instructor. She tried her best as they kept handing her more and more students. People started getting pissed off and leaving. We were unable to learn because the section they had us in was filled with small children, strollers, children learning to ski, etc. there was no separate section, even if it was small. We complained to the rental place about our experience and they said “well you can have infinite number of people within the lesson” and did not offer any solution. They say their goal is 6 people per group lesson, but 15 is just insane. They did help a couple that was within our group with a free private lesson but did not offer anything to us. It felt like discrimination - why help one couple with the same problem but not us? We are overall very unhappy with the $400pp experience and definitely unhappy that the folks at the rental/check-in place for snowboarding were so unhelpful. Please do not confuse this with the larger ski rental place, which is run smoothly.
