- ZAZEYNEP AYNACIMar 28, 20261.0I’m really disappointed with my experience purchasing a kids’ bike from REI, specifically with their trade-in program. When we bought the bike, we were told we could bring it back through their kids’ trade-in program when my son outgrew it. However, when we returned it, they refused to honor the program, claiming the bike was not in “pristine condition.” This requirement was never clearly explained to us at the time of purchase. The reality is that my son only used the bike twice. Yes, the chain shows some rust, but it’s minor and easily fixable certainly not what I would consider excessive wear for a child’s bike. This felt very misleading and disappointing, especially from a company known for its customer service and values. If there are strict condition requirements, they should be communicated clearly upfront. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend participating in this program.

After waiting over 20mins I was told it would take over a month for them to get around to my repair. It also felt very disorganized. I ended up going to the Berkeley store and they said did it in less than a week. Would recommend elsewhere for repairs.

REI has always been my go-to for apparel and gear, and the San Francisco location is excellent. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the outdoors. I never feel pressured, and I always leave with gear I trust for my next adventure. Highly recommended for anyone getting ready for their next trip, wherever it takes them!
