From family activities like snow tubing and scenic Aerial Tram rides to luxurious spa treatments and fine dining, there are endless activities and events awaiting you at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley, CA throughout the year.
I had the best day today at Palisades!! The day started out with a really friendly liftee at the gondola (or funitel?) named Samira who gave me a little sprout for my hat and really brightened my day. My friend and I lapped the smaller park off of Belmont chair, the features were well made and the vibes were amazing. I’m excited to come back!

Pros: Beautiful terrains.
Cons: Long lift lines (I’m talking about wrapped-around-the-parking-lot long). Difficult to get to (slow Amtrak that only runs once a day; private buses or driving that can take 10h due to jam and road conditions); expensive lodging. Just stressful logistic in general. Probably faster to get to Utah resorts than here from the Bay Area.

Skied here yesterday. Actually, waited in lines for about 6 hours and skied about one hour. I get that it takes time to prep a resort after a big snowfall. But, at some point, as was the case yesterday, being ultra conservative with opening creates a bigger problem. Too many people jammed onto too few runs= accidents. Saw one yesterday off of Red Dog where skier and snowboarder collided. Skier had a pretty big cut on his chin and then they were close to fighting over whose fault it was. I'd say Palisades fault for having so little of the mountain open; and they were still selling tickets, knowing full well they were way, way over capacity and just adding to the problem. It's like selling 1000 tickets to a movie but the theatre only holds 100 people. Greed sucks.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of the parking procedure, which cost me $100 ($200 fine is reduced if you pay within 10 days. Say 2 I was able to park for free via the website. It also hadn’t snowed in a week, so groomers were I ‘n the menu this past weekend. We left as the storm hit, which may dump up to 8 feet this week. At least we had sun and short lines.

We will be spending a total of 6 days skiing here. They hadn't had much snow in a while at the beginning of our trip, but it is supposed to snow near the end of our time. Even with the snow drought, there was still a lot open despite many bare spots especially off-piste. The runs at Palisades were in better shape than Alpine where we did quite a bit of rock dodging near Sherwood.
We stuck mostly to the blue groomers while we awaited the snow, but still enjoyed it. It was fairly busy on the weekend, but pretty manageable on the week days.
