  As a thriller author, polar explorer, and author of The Most Crucial Knots to Know and The Motivated Amateur’s Guide to Winter Camping, I always pay close attention to outdoor gear quality, and REI Laguna Hills is a great, relaxed location. This Laguna Hills REI has a very open, inviting layout with nice display areas right when you walk in, making it easy to get oriented and start exploring. The exterior has a modern architectural feel, and one of the coolest touches is the wood-handled ice axes used as door handles, a subtle nod to REI’s mountaineering roots. Inside, the store is well stocked across categories, with a strong selection of gear for general outdoor use. The sleeping bag section is especially good, with options for a wide range of conditions. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, offering solid guidance when comparing gear or looking for something specific. Parking is easy and the location is very accessible, making it a convenient stop. Overall it’s a well-run REI with a chill atmosphere, great design touches, and a helpful team.

  Super fun staff all the way. I had my backpack fitted, and have tried a numerous amount of shoes. Shout out to Chris!! highly recommend the store and all the staff.
