- CCChris ColemanApr 16, 20261.0I had a very concerning experience with a jeweler regarding my Cartier Tank ring. Back in June 2003, A few weeks before my daughter was born, I brought in my original Cartier Tank piece, which had an opal stone, and paid to have a diamond set in 18k white gold Tank(Basically to replaced the opal). I trusted that my original item and the diamond I purchased would be used in the process. Recently, when I took the ring in for repair, I was informed by 2 other professional that the piece is not Cartier at all. The Cartier marking is faint and inconsistent with authentic branding. It looks like a fake. I was furious with Dominion jewler cunning me like this. To make matters more concerning, I later confirmed with the jeweler’s daughter that the ring is, in fact, a replica. This raises serious questions: • What happened to my original $2400 18 carat Cartier ring? • Was the diamond I paid for actually used? • Why was I not informed that a replica was being made? Why wasn’t my Cartier tank? Returned to me? It was not an exchange. Additionally, the diamond was not provided with a Gemological Institute of America certification. Instead, it came with documentation from European Gemological Laboratory, which is known to have less consistent grading standards compared to GIA. The documentation lacked clear details, including proper specifications of the diamond. Given this experience, I strongly recommend: • Getting all work documented in writing • Requesting certified grading (preferably GIA) • Seeking independent verification before and after any jewelry work This situation has been extremely disappointing, and I hope others take the necessary precautions. Do not trust this jeweler at all. They will steal your jewelry on a bright daylight and scam you with a replica and charge you for the replica as well.
