Some things just need to die. I went to Penny's yesterday shopping for my niece. I haven't been to a Pennys in years. The store seemed partially deserted with very limited selection in the juniors. When we tried to get into the dressing room the associate was blocking our way with her cart but didn't not offer to move, we eventually asked if we could move past her to get into the dressing room and she seemed annoyed. The dressing rooms look like they haven't been updated since 1995 with very dim lighting and half of them out of service. We found a pair of black off brand sweatpants for my niece for $35. I found a sweeater I liked the look of but it was extremely cheaply made and $55 so I decided against it. The two registers closest to us were closed and we had to ask someone to figure out where to check out. At the check out one of the cashiers was aggressively harassing a Hispanic women in front of us about applying for a credit card. The woman was so clearly uncomfortable and the cashier just kept pushing ”Can you give me one reason why you don't want to apply?". It made me uncomfortable watching. I almost stepped in to intervene but the cashier finally gave up.

This is one of the nicest JC Penny stores I have been to in Utah. Overall I like the store and the selection of things they have is very large.

Great customer service experience. Michelle and store manager Tabby helped my son and I find suits and get a black Friday deal that didn't ring up properly.

Ive never had such an uncomfortable experience in retail before. When getting checked in to get photos taken I tried to ask a clarifying question about the pricing for different packages and the woman checking us in refused to answer my question and kept saying we would work it out after the photos were taken, with progressing anger and volume in her voice, but I was confused why the price options needed to be a mystery before the service, especially when the price difference between packages was hundreds of dollars. We wanted to take funny group photos for our grandma and she kept saying we couldn’t only do group photos and needed to do separate and individual photos. When we finally met our photographer and were asked about our plan she was so sweet and accommodating and said we could totally do group photos. The woman who checked us in then proceeded to literally yell at her poor coworker in front of us and say we NEEDED to do individual photos to fill a “shot quota”. Holy awkward. Our photographer tried to then ask us what background we wanted, but don’t worry the woman from before, chimed in and chose for us and since we didn’t want to get yelled at we just went with it. After photos were over our photographer closed the laptop in the photo area and the woman who checked us in yelled at her so rudely and loudly the whole studio went silent. Im genuinely surprised our photographer didn’t walk out of the store in the moment and quit. The person who checked us out and helped us choose our photo package was helpful and explained all the price options clearly and we were able to spend within our planned budget without stress. I don’t know why these questions couldn’t have been answered before because it took this person 30 seconds to explain it. No one was wearing name tags but the woman who was harassing her poor coworkers and other guests was a white middle-aged woman with blonde hair and black over-filled in eyebrows working 11/28 in the morning/afternoon. I cannot stress enough that the other two people working were helpful and provided a great service. They did not deserve that treatment and I am seriously dissatisfied in our service. Not getting to choose how our photos were taken, our background, or be made aware of the price options beforehand, like having to pay for a walk in fee and then paying twice as much to actually be able to download the photos we just payed to take.
