I wrote a review of my experience of Over The Moon from three months ago. Here in January, I see that the owner responded to my review and so I want to write my review to show light on my experience and to follow up on a question from the owner.
I frequent cute boutiques like Over The Moon and I mostly go to ones in SLC. I do love the esthetic.
I have been to this store a year ago and then I had been there six months prior, and then a few months ago, in which I am now writing my review about.
Three months ago I went to over the moon with my daughter because she and I both love Jellycats. I pretty much go to all the Jellycat stores.
We went in the evening and the employee that helped us was a younger girl in early 20’s. She was so kind and made our experience great. She was telling me all the Jellycats that she loves.
I chose out one and the girl was so kind to put it on hold for me. I worked the next day down in slc and went to two stores that carry Jellycats and saw their stock.
Because I worked, I was in a sweatshirt and leggings, hair up in a bun and no makeup. I bought the Jellycat that I put on hold and the one my daughter thought was cute too. I am a friendly chatty person and often make friends where ever I go. I told the clerk about the girl who helped me the night before, and I heard the clerk say, that’s my daughter. As we were chatting, I was telling them locations that carry Jellycats down in slc, I don’t remember the exacts, but I believe two more employees joined the conversation, so a total of three employees gathered around to hear me talk about Jellycats. From my understanding the lady that helped me was the mother of the girl who helped the night before. I told the group of employees which ones the girl told me she liked and which stores I saw them at in slc. The one lady who was older seemed kind of annoyed and said, “Oh, we had that one.” I said “I know you did.” Then I said she also likes this other one and the same lady chimed in “ we’ve ordered that one.” They was an air of annoyance about me talking about other stores that carry Jellycats and me mentioning specific Jellycats. The employee I mistakened as the mom rung me up and she said bye luv! In a way that I could just tell that she didn’t think much of me, not sure why? If me dressed in my grubby work attire had anything to do with it, or the conversation of other retailers, or of Jellycats in specific. She dashed away quickly into the clothing side of the store. They all disappeared. I was left in the children’s side by myself. I was the only customer in the store and was just left with a weird awkward feeling.
I had a wonderful experience with the girl who helped me the night before, but left with a weird awkward experience the next day that I went. So needless to say…. I didn’t feel very impressed with my experience from the second day and won’t be back. For me, I will just go to other Jellycat retailers.
The owner mentioned that they don’t have a mother daughter team at their store, so I guess I was mistaken on that front.

Holiday open house was just darling! Even with a group that let their littles going wild in the store. The music, treats, decor, and more was the most lovely holiday vibe. So fun to kick off the season here! Love shopping local!

I brought my little granddaughter into Over the Moon Tonight November 6 2025 to look at the Maileg Mice etc. She was thrilled until the store clerk came up and ripped a basket of stuffies out of her hands and scolded all of us. It was then my granddaughter began to cry and throw a tantrum.
No people skills there! A little reasoning with a child would have gone a long way to curb the situation. Belittling parent and grandparent was not well received as well.
You have lost a customer who can afford your exorbitant prices. I appreciate quality but kindness and courtesy are more important. I can always find another store to get quality items.
Edit to add: The shop responded to my review and it won’t let me respond in turn, but I think they totally missed the point of my comments. My negative review was about the employee ripping the mice out of my granddaughter’s hands instead of kindly asking us to not touch. You are correct that we did not see the sign that said not to touch or else we wouldn’t have let her. Later she handed us a paper and when I went to reach for it she yanked it away and I felt totally snubbed. The customer service was QUITE lacking, and the response to my review and two huge paragraphs about the pricing (which my review was not about at all, just a side note that I can actually afford those boutique prices but will be spending my money elsewhere) shows that they STILL don’t understand or have compassion. Also the “table of toys” in the back was 2 boring little toys that were not interesting at all. Other boutiques we have been to allow us to touch the mice so we can see what my granddaughter gravitates towards, as that is what we would have purchased. If that’s the rule here, that’s fine, but some respect and understanding would’ve been nice when being told.

What a great employee you have in Sarah. I called looking for Jellycats and she sent me a photo of the Jellycats you had in stock. She was so kind and helpful. I found the one my granddaughter wanted. Thanks Sarah. 💕
