Three days ago, on Father’s Day, my wife surprised me by buying me a firearm. We completed the application, and after waiting 2–3 days for approval, I called on June 24 to check the status. I was told I had been approved and could come pick it up. I asked what time they closed, and they told me 8:00 PM. I explained that my son had training, but I would be there before closing. I drove all the way from Kenosha to the Racine store and walked in at 7:30–7:31 PM, a full 30 minutes before closing. As soon as I got to the firearm counter, the employee looked irritated that I was even there. Before asking me anything, he got on the radio and asked his supervisor if his register was still open. The supervisor responded that the register had already been closed. I couldn’t believe it. There were still 30 minutes left before the store closed, and they knew I was coming because I had just called. The employee offered no apology and showed no interest in helping. I asked if I could speak with the supervisor, Jeff, and was told he was “too busy.” Looking around, there were only one or two customers in the entire store, yet Jeff never came out to speak with me. As I walked out, I was met by a cloud of cigarette smoke from employees outside. Apparently there was time for smoke breaks, but not enough time to complete what could have been one of the larger sales of the day. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. The lack of professionalism and accountability starts at the top. After this experience, I completely understand the store’s 3.7-star rating. This is exactly why more and more people choose to shop online instead of supporting local stores.

Wonderful service! Quick shipping of a firearm to the store. A bit out of my neighborhood, but worth the drive! Mike at the firearms desk was very knowledgeable and made the experience perfect!

I am writing this review partially because a single employee named John might be the only one to handle this situation respectfully and professionally, from my perspective. To begin, my intention was to sign up for a Sportsman Warehouse Credit Card. I had signed up for the card with another representative prior to my check out - then had gone to get the background check done. That part took 2-5 minutes, with a clear check. Then - one representative helped two military customers and was chatting with them. That's fine, I understand it, but there were several other employees chatting and not helping me out. I stood around for an hr-hr 15 before I had told them I would take my ID back and walk, as I had to get to work. The representative who was chatting didn't have any ill will, and I appreciate his socialization, but I had gotten no recognition at this point. I'm not a super confrontational person so it takes me a bit to speak up, but at that point I was eager to go and disgruntled. They still continued on with a sales pitch for their "gun cleaning services". I shut that down quick. The cherry on top was them not even adding the $50 off of the handgun to begin with and just running the credit card without it - the whole point of that sign up for what is an extremely "new credit owner" advantageous card. Do not sign up if you do not understand the APR, etc. All in all, I got the handgun. I almost want to return it just since I don't want Sportsman to have any of my money. I don't mean to sound whiny, but as a consumer whose worked as a sales representative, this isn't the way it should have gone. I'd prefer to support a local caring FFL for sure, now...but this is how opinions are formed. This is one interaction of two that had recently erked me. I will likely stay away from here in the future, as the time is better spent elsewhere.

Consistently overpriced. Very nice store, but hard to walk out winning. Not competitive for the area. Better choices, especially on line. Good staff. Clean store.
