- KFKatt FisherAug 21, 20231.0SMARTSTART has a new policy as of August 2023 that you have to pay in full and wait for reimbursement even if you have financial assistance through dol . I was approved for financial assistance months ago and they have been helping me pay most of my interlock monthly fees but now I have to pay full price and wait for a reimbursement which defeats the purpose of getting financial assistance the point of financial assistance is because I can’t afford to pay full price every month. I called dol and they said that doesn’t sound right. My only option here is to switch companies. They are playing a cruel game here and I don’t like it. SMARTSTART can’t even explain why they made this new policy. THIS REVIEW HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GATEWAY AUTO IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH SMARTSTART AND SMARTSTART ONLY

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
