Your Ignition Interlock installation appointment will usually only take up to an hour or two, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. We also understand the significance of working with your car – rest assured that our service technicians will take utmost care while installing the Interlock device.

After having your Ignition Interlock Device installed, you’ll need to have your device serviced regularly at a Smart Start service center. These visits can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Our trained service technicians will help you to answer any questions you may have concerning your device.

Removing your Ignition Interlock Device is simple! Before you submit a removal request, please check with your state authority that you are authorized to remove your device. It’s important that you only have your device removed at a Smart Start service center.

    First and foremost, I strongly advise against doing business with Smart Start. I repeat—do not use this company. They will quote you one price, but you can expect to pay double, if not triple, by the end of the process. Secondly, the location I dealt with was completely unprofessional. Brianna rescheduled my appointment last minute, claiming she was leaving early—even though I had already arranged time off work to be there. She canceled appointments with little notice and then charged me a $55 missed appointment fee for an appointment she canceled. Whenever I asked questions, she dismissed me and told me to call Smart Start directly, even though she was the one causing the issues. I even drove to the location in person to request removal of my interlock device after completing all requirements and paying for removal. I was told they would be closed until Wednesday. When I returned Wednesday, I was told there was no time to help me. This went on for four weeks. Because of this delay, I had the interlock device in my car for an entire extra month, which prevented me from starting a new job. The lack of urgency and accountability was extremely frustrating. Additionally, I had a negative experience with the payment department in Texas. The representative I spoke with was rude and even used inappropriate language during the call. Overall, this company is unprofessional, untrustworthy, and lacks basic customer service. I would not recommend Smart Start to anyone.

    Fast response when you install a device. I was told the installation fee would be $150 over the phone. Charged nearly $400 at the site, no receipt, no response to emails, couldn't be reached over the phone. My device started acting up and got violation because of coffee and milk according to the customer service rep. No help, no response, no fix. My car is now disabled and I have to spend more money to tow my car to their shop to be fixed. Just hard to reach the company. Can't even make an appointment to remove the device.
