I am writing this review not for the individual locations that are contracted to service this company. I am writing strickly regarding Smart Start. So first, I need to mention I have a 2016 model S Tesla. Right away you think... ok how does this work on this car? Well, I called around an asked several places that actually said yes to installing. Some didn't know how to do it which is fine. Its better to say I don't know then fake it. I selected a company in Puyallup that installed the IID and it took several hours for them to do it and it cost $450 dollars. I didn't realize at the time, but the device was installed incorrectly. I am not going to go into the details about how it was installed, just know it was not operating as expected. As a result of improper install, I had several violations occur. Each one of these violations where caused by missed tests. I wasn't in the car at the time the vehicle required a test. The total of 1 year of violations was close to $1,000. I tried and tried to reach someone to help and it was very frustrating as I spoke with people from the Philipines. They are limited to what they can authorize and simply can't do what I needed. The company that installed the IID said it was a Smart Start Corporate issue. I tried and tried for a year. Finally, I was called by the Washington State Patrol. They actually called me. They asked my why so many violations. I then spoke about my problems with the device and the lack of help I was getting. Well, I filled out a complaint online and in a month I got a call from Bobby with Smart Start.. Who is amazing. He listened. He explained the problem. He gave me solutions. He followed up. He gave me reassurance that he will remain available and how to reach him. This company paid for every violation I had caused by the improper install. YES.. $1000 DOLLARS. He asked me if I wanted a check or account credit. I chose the one year or so of paid recalibrations. They reinstalled the device correctly, and I am all good now. So happy that Bobby took some action and had the authorization to solve the problem. So if you have a Tesla... Have corporate install it in Auburn. They were very good and know what they are doing. Thanks Bobby and Auburn facility for your kindness and help.

When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.

Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
