This store just made me feel uncomfortable. When I walked in, the staff gave me that look. Probably unintentional but it’s a look that people of color can probably relate to all too well. But meh not something that bothers me. I had just purchased a top at free people next door, and when I looked to my right I saw a cheap pair of shorts that look like they may have matched well. I picked them up. A saleswomen immediately asked me if I wanted a dressing room started, no issue, standard procedure. I browsed, didn’t see anything else. Then proceeded to try on the shorts. Soon after I get the shorts on the saleswoman asked me if I was okay. I said yes. Didn’t like them, took them off, and neatly placed them on a bar within the dressing room. When I opened the dressing room door the saleswoman was right there like almost close enough for us to touch noses with a panicked look in her eyes like she assumed that my goal was to steal that pair of shorts. She quickly rushed into the dressing room and found the shorts. Just odd. The whole shopping experience just felt like a micro- or macroaggression.

Sale associates were very adamant about “keeping items on the front” when I had said I wanted to keep them with me and think about them as I continue to shop on. They took turn as ask me until eventually I gave up. Then when I made purchase of a few hundreds worth of these items, they didn’t bother to fold them nicely, just literally roll them all in and solve into a bag. Worst customer service I’ve had with Madewell

I shop madewell online but when I was around the retail location decided to go in. Was going to ask if they carried plus sizes in store as I’d love to try some on before ordering. Was with a friend who is straight sized and also wanted to try a few items on. Was greeted and before I could ask if they carried my size in store all of the employees walked away or helped other customers. And promptly ignored us. I suppose we didn’t look like their normal clientele. Looked at a few clothing items in the front and did not see anything bigger than a large so I suppose I got my answer. Both my friend and I commented how we felt extremely uncomfortable and out of place as we left the store.

I could not have had a better experience. I walked in looking for a pair of jeans that would fit me right and came out with the perfect pair. I thought I was a 27 but thanks to the amazing customer service provided, I found out I was really a 24 and finally found my ideal size! The ladies who work there know what they're doing. I will definitely visit again!
