- RRR5 days ago3.0The techs at both the Henrico location and Chester location are very professional and decent guys. They communicated everything clearly and kindly. The representatives that helped me get set up were similarly helpful and genuinely nice. THEN the switch with anyone I've ever talked to after signing on with this service. The device malfunctioned in the car, ALMOST leaving me stranded in a parking lot on my way home. Tech support was incompetent and almost rude when I spoke with them. Mind you, I did telephone tech support for Circuit City for over 3 years in college for everything electronic Circuit City sold, so I'm not ENTIRELY stupid. After having me disconnect the handheld portion of the device for 30 seconds as a reset, the problem persisted, to which the uncaring human (?) directed me to Roadside Assistance to have my vehicle towed to the shop... which wouldn't be opened until tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'm stuck at a gas station, 3 dogs at home that need to go outside, roommates out of town until tomorrow night, I'm freaking out over the fact I have a new job that tomorrow is the first day of my third week, and the technician tells me NOT to try unplugging it again for longer . Absolutely do not. I confirmed that i just needed to contact Roadside Assistance from this point from the text he (the technician) had just sent me and hung up abruptly as he shuffled through what sounded like a scripted, uncaring call. Rather than react, I decided to reset the device by unplugging it again ANYWAY (sometimes a longer reset WILL work, by the way with electronic devices), and step aside, have a cigarette and stay calm. Thankfully when I plugged the device back in, it worked properly. Extremely inconvenient and stressful situation avoided by trying a simple solution anyway. Did I mention how smug and dismissive the individual was almost from the beginning? What drove me to write this review was how utterly uncaring they were when I called back with some "constructive input for situations like mine in the future that could be avoided entirely". I doubt I'll care enough to take this further, however I'm not entirely certain.

How often does my Ignition Interlock Device need to be serviced?

What do I need for removal?
Requirements will differ by state, but generally your state authority must grant removal authorization before you can have your IID removed. You will then need to fill out the Device Removal Request form on our website and upload any official documentation that may be required to authorize the removal.
Do I need an Interlock Device on all of my vehicles?
Some states will require that you have an Ignition Interlock Device installed on all cars registered to you, but most states will just require that whichever vehicle you drive have an IID installed. Check with your state authority to see if you will need an IID installed on all of your cars.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
Can I unplug my Ignition Interlock?
Check with your state authority to see if you are allowed to unplug your Ignition Interlock before doing so.
Can someone else drive my car?
Yes, but whoever is driving the vehicle MUST take a breath test and pass before driving. Any failed test will still be your responsibility.
