  Finding comfortable shoes has always been difficult for me, so I appreciated how patient and knowledgeable the staff at this shoe store were during my visit. Instead of simply pointing toward random styles, the employee helping me actually asked about arch support, work routines, and comfort preferences before making recommendations. I ended up finding a pair that felt great immediately without needing a long break-in period afterward. Compared to larger shoe retailers where customer service often feels rushed, this experience was much more personalized and helpful. The selection was also much broader than expected, with options that balanced comfort and style really well.

  The DSW exchange policy indicates that “For a different size/color, you can do a free exchange in-store or by mail. For a different style, DSW recommends a return and separate re-purchase, or an in-store exchange to immediately get the new item.” I attempted to exchange a new balance sneaker for a different size and color. The sneaker was the same style. Yet they treated my exchange as if it was for a different style and said they have to do a full refund and repurchase rather than just doing an even exchange. It seems to me that the employee was attempting to help raise her (or the stores) daily sales numbers by mistreating the exchange process. I chose to refund rather than put $90 on hold.

  On 2/14/2026 at 8:31pm I went inside the DSW sunset valley in Austin Texas to purchase a couple of pairs of Steve Madden sandals I’d seen were in stock. While there I browsed the clearance and saw an 11 wide in these kitten heels which that size alone is tough to find in store. I purchased them, went home and they sat on my dresser for weeks as within the two days my dog of 10 years had passed on the 28th of Feb, and then my mother in law passed away on 3/3/2026. As I started feeling better I headed to DSW on March 13th, I went to return these shoes due to opening the box and seeing they were clearly used on the bottom of the feet. When I arrived at the store I realized I forgot the box at home (I had multiple items to return and had boxes but not these). I return to the location on 3/15 where I let them know the issue and wanted to be sure to point it out to the associate. I BROUGHT IT UP. The leader on duty Shante lets me know there is absolutely no way these items were sold like that. I let her know that there is absolutely a way because I haven’t worn them and if I was trying to get away with return I would have CLEANED THEM AND ZIPPED MY LIPS. I wouldn’t even have mentioned it to an associate if I knew they wouldn’t return them but I didn’t want this to happen to someone else and they get put back on the shelf. So much time passed due to me going through me in my personal life and the associate stated if less time had passed she would’ve been more inclined to do the return. I didn’t expect so much to happen to me shortly after or I would have been back. The associate who initially rung me up seemed annoyed I was there right at closing but it is difficult to get there when I too work at a retail location in another store that has similar hours.

  This DSW has a great selection throughout the store. Although I normally shop DSW online, whenever I come into the store it is worth it. John Michael - one of the store managers, is an irreplaceable asset to the team and does a particularly excellent job! He is always on the move, ready to assist customers with a smile and is knowledgeable of brands, promotions and backstock. As a DSW shopper for over 20 years (showing my age now) I can certainly say I always enjoy my shopping experience here! 👟 👠 🛍 💕
