I love going to half priced books for the great prices and for books on trades, arts, history, and old manuals. They always have a decent selection and are super nice!

Inexperienced staff reviewing books to sell to them. I took a hard back book printed in 1945 that was in good condition, with the book jacket intact and illustrated by N.C. Wyeth. My research online indicated it was worth $30-$50. I have a large box of similar books my father left me that I've had 35+ years. It's time I pass them on and back into circulation. I'm not looking to make a big profit, but want to sell them for something given their value, and to put them back into circulation. What prompts the 1 star is a very young person flipped thru the book like a deck of cards. I pointed out the N.C. Wyeth prints, but I do not believe they knew who that was given the blank look I received. Within 5 seconds they said they won't buy it, but they'll take all the books I have off my hands. I will look for a store that better understands the value of these old books, and that has customers who will appreciate them.

I love this place. I come here all the time, both for their great graphic novel and board game selection, as well as a great place to buy gifts for friends. They have seasonal offers like coupon books for the whole year when you buy $30 or more, which I get every year. They have great, friendly customer service. You can buy from any store of theirs in the nation and have it shipped there. I've found so many gems here, all for a good price.I can't recommend it enough.

I usually love coming to Half-Price Books and have always had great experiences, but my recent visit was genuinely saddening. I went to sell some books, but when I wasn’t sure on the initial offer, an older gentleman in the back grew visibly frustrated and turned red. Feeling scared and uncomfortable, I took the receipt and went about the store, not yet cashing in the money. I returned a second time with my mom because I was nervous, and she helped me state that I wasn't comfortable selling the books. While I take responsibility for changing my mind, the buy counter staff audibly and negatively talked about the transaction while I was still standing right there. I totally get being frustrated at me, but I wish they waited until I left first.😭 Additionally, several of my books went missing from the stack during the process, and staff weren't going to tell me until I pointed it out. The last book that I noticed missing was actually not in the storefront, but in the back. Finally, at checkout, the cashier (I believe his name was Dan, Dave, or David) was unnecessarily short and disrespectful to my parents when a card briefly declined, snapping 'What does the screen tell you?' instead of offering polite guidance. I understand working retail gets tiring, having done my time in retail myself. And I was not upset about the offer. However, making customers feel intimidated, talking negatively about them within earshot, and snapping at my parents was unkind and unprofessional.

This review is only because of yesterday when me and my daughter came to buy a few magazines and a few books on hold. So my daughter went to get the mags. she wanted then back to the front to pay for them and there was an employee lady who was standing near the front while the cashier had rung up the magazines.I'm wondering why she happened to walk up the front when we went to the front, I'm just wondering what her problem was because before I went to the back where my daughter was I did notice her looking at my daughter just because she was giggling a lot, which is her business and none of hers.So if that's the reason and the only reason I could think of then it was very suspicious when she is like everyone else and knows what she is doing and with my help. And she stayed near the front all the while we were there until we left watching us. And I felt irritated as I left. I'm usually calmer and not so upset when I leave this store but yesterday I felt annoyed because of her. I'm not sure if it was just stupidity or ignorance. We are human just like the rest.
