- LJLarissa Jolly5 days ago1.0Stopped by Bass Pro today interested in looking at boats. The salesman was not busy at all, saw us standing there, and completely ignored us until my husband finally asked if we could step inside one of the boats. His response was, “If you’re interested?”in a very smug tone. When I asked if there was a problem, he explained they “don’t like people crawling around the boats unless they’re serious.” He lost our business instantly, I let him know I was no longer interested and not to worry, we would not be buying a boat from him after the snobby way he treated us. Little did he know, we actually were interested and would not have asked to look inside if we weren’t. Purchasing a boat is a significant investment, and most customers understandably want to see and experience the product before making that kind of decision. That should be expected, not discouraged. What was most disappointing was feeling as though we were being evaluated based on appearance rather than treated as potential customers. Retail staff, especially in high-ticket sales environments, should understand that professionalism and respect matter with every interaction. We ultimately walked away feeling unwelcome, which completely changed our experience in the store. I hope management takes customer experience more seriously and ensures all guests are treated with the same level of courtesy and professionalism, regardless of assumptions made at first glance.
