A Humiliating and Deeply Disappointing Experience at Michael Kors Outlet – Katy Mills
I arrived at this store happy and excited to shop. I purchased handbags, wallets, and other items for myself and for friends who live outside the United States. In total, I spent approximately $2,000 on nearly 20 items.
Unfortunately, from the beginning, the sales associate who assisted me was unfriendly. English is not my first language, and I am still not fluent. At times, I had difficulty understanding, and instead of receiving patience and a willingness to help, I received rude responses and an attitude that made me feel uncomfortable and discriminated against because of my difficulty with the language.
The most humiliating part happened after I had already paid for my purchase.
I was informed that all the products I had just purchased would be placed inside a garbage bag because of the number of items I had purchased and because they could not provide me with individual shopping bags.
I could not believe it. I had just spent approximately $2,000 on Michael Kors products, and I was expected to leave the store carrying my handbags and wallets inside a garbage bag.
I even asked them to please provide me with at least ONE large shopping bag with handles so I could safely carry my purchases to my vehicle, but they refused. My concern was not only about appearance. These were nearly 20 items, including handbags and wallets, that could be scratched, crushed, or damaged by being placed together this way. For me, these products represent a significant investment, and I expected them to be handled and protected appropriately.
I was also surprised to see customers purchasing only one item receiving a shopping bag, while because I made a much larger purchase, my products were going to be placed together in a garbage bag.
If Michael Kors has a policy regarding the number of items purchased or the distribution of shopping bags, I believe customers should be informed BEFORE they complete their purchase, not after the store has accepted approximately $2,000 of their money.
I arrived so excited that I was recording content for my social media about my shopping experience. I never imagined I would leave the store feeling sad, humiliated, and deeply disappointed.
I am not writing this review simply because of a shopping bag. I am writing because the dignity, respect, and way a customer is treated matter, regardless of their accent, country of origin, or level of English proficiency.
I sincerely hope Michael Kors Corporate reviews what happened at its Katy Mills location and confirms whether placing approximately $2,000 worth of handbags, wallets, and accessories inside a garbage bag is truly an authorized company practice.
