On 8/14, I went into Lane Bryant with my husband and two sisters to purchase three bras. Unfortunately, the entire experience was extremely disappointing, especially considering I have been shopping at Lane Bryant for almost 10 years and have always received excellent customer service in the past.
During our entire time in the store, no one greeted us or asked if we needed assistance. Eventually, my husband approached a younger blonde woman with glasses, wearing a green dress, approximately 5’9”, and asked if she could help me find a particular bra style and size. I explained what I was looking for, and she walked only a few feet away before seemingly forgetting what I had asked for. She came back and asked me again, then went to ask another employee—a younger African American woman with bright orange hair wearing a hot pink leopard-print dress.
Instead of helping me find an alternative, the second employee argued with me and told me that Lane Bryant did not make the bra I was looking for, despite the fact that the bra is currently listed online. My family and I ultimately had to search through the store ourselves and pull multiple bras to try to determine what might work.
I am currently pregnant, so my bra size has changed drastically, and I specifically needed assistance finding the correct size and style. In the past, Lane Bryant employees have always been helpful with sizing, bra fittings, and locating items on the sales floor or checking the back for additional sizes.
Once I found bras I wanted to try on, I went to the front of the store and the employee simply assumed I was ready to check out. I had to explain that I needed a fitting room, and I was essentially sent back to find one myself. The fitting rooms were old and dirty, with a disassembled table and multiple floor racks taken apart and left in the area, making the space feel cluttered and unwelcoming.
At no point did anyone check on me, offer assistance, or ask whether I needed another size. The two employees remained at the front of the store chatting with each other for much of the time while my family and I were left to figure everything out ourselves.
When I checked out, a different woman, appearing to be in her mid-40s with dark hair and wearing a green top, assisted me. She also seemed unfamiliar with the product/color names and did not know that “Tap Shoe” is the black color used for the bras.
Ultimately, I came into the store intending to purchase three bras, but because I received so little assistance, I had to order two of the three items online instead.
I am extremely disappointed by this experience. After nearly 10 years of shopping at Lane Bryant, I have come to expect employees to be welcoming, knowledgeable, and willing to help with sizing and finding products. This visit was the complete opposite. I hope management will address the customer service issues, the condition of the fitting rooms, and the lack of product knowledge demonstrated by the staff.
