Your Ignition Interlock installation appointment will usually only take up to an hour or two, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. We also understand the significance of working with your car – rest assured that our service technicians will take utmost care while installing the Interlock device.

After having your Ignition Interlock Device installed, you’ll need to have your device serviced regularly at a Smart Start service center. These visits can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Our trained service technicians will help you to answer any questions you may have concerning your device.

Removing your Ignition Interlock Device is simple! Before you submit a removal request, please check with your state authority that you are authorized to remove your device. It’s important that you only have your device removed at a Smart Start service center.

    I never thought I'd be writing a positive review about an ignition interlock place, but here we are. Before Xavier started working at the South Austin location, coming here honestly felt worse than jail. The previous employee would slam the service window shut, barely acknowledge you, never smiled, and would sit on personal phone calls while customers waited. Every visit made an already stressful situation feel even more degrading. Now that Xavier is here, the difference is night and day. He actually smiles, makes conversation, and treats people with basic kindness and respect. He even leaves the window open instead of making you feel like you're being shut out. It may seem like a small thing, but when you're already going through a difficult chapter in life, being treated like a human being instead of a criminal means a lot. Please keep Xavier at this location. I don't dread coming in anymore, and that's entirely because of him.

    There is one reason and one reason only I am willing to give this place 5 Stars and his name is Xavier. So today was my last recalibration and I was getting my IID removed. Previous encounters at this specific Smart Start have been very subpar. Terrible Customer Service, Terrible Attitude, Terrible Attention to Detail, and the staff had some sort of “power trip” going on. The last 6 months have been very complicated and they made my experience tremendously worse. But with all that being said, today I came with high hopes because I was going to get everything removed and done! I pull in and there is a line of about 7-8 cars (The longest line I’ve seen, usually about 1-2 cars) but I wait until it’s my turn. During my time in line I see a gentleman running around helping multiple clients at once. It’s finally my turn and I pull in and I get to see a new unfamiliar face. He greets me, asked how I’m doing and how he could be of service. I let him know I’m here for a removal and he says “Congratulations, I’m happy to hear that!” I then asked if he’s the only one there and he said yes because the prior employees didn’t uphold the SmartStart way and had to be let go and he’s filling in until they get new team members in. We had a nice chat while he helped me understand the process, took about 20min and let me on my way. Told me how he connects with all his clients at his regular location and I wish I got to experience that, but either way my time is done with my IID and I wanted to make sure Xavier got acknowledged for how in just 1 visit, 1 person can take a 1 star to a 5, SHOUTOUT Xavier!
