The vision of our 501(c3) nonprofit organization is that ALL people have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential through the power of work.Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee is based in Nashville, Tenn. The agency serves 48 counties throughout Middle and West Tennessee, operating 30 retail stores and two outlet stores, about 53 Donation Express Centers and 13 Career Solutions Centers. The nonprofit is one of Tennessee’s largest employers of people with disabilities with more than 45 percent of our workforce reporting some type of disability or disadvantage. Although affiliated with Goodwill Industries International in Rockville, Md., we operate independently through our own governing board of directors. Goodwill accepts gently-used items that donors no longer want, need or use. Those items are sold either in our retail stores or online at onlinegoodwill.com. Revenue from the sale of donated goods helps fund job training services and programs provided by Goodwill Career Solutions. In addition to retail sales, Goodwill depends on several other revenue sources, including state and local grants.

- WKWilliam “Bill” KimballJun 4, 20261.0I used to enjoy shopping at this Goodwill, especially for electronics and unique finds, but the experience has gone downhill. I have Johnny thousands and thousands of dollars worth of merchandise over the years and I’ve spent a lot of money in there as well. I consider myself regular and most of the staff knows me by face. The electronics section is frustrating because many items are missing power cords, cables, or remote controls. While you can sometimes plug an item in at the store, that doesn’t tell you whether all of its features actually work. Too often, customers take items home only to discover they’re defective. When that happens, you’re generally offered store credit rather than a refund. Staff and management often seem unapproachable, and getting a price check on unmarked items can be a slow process. The general manager, the man is unfriendly, unkind and unapproachable, and his pricing for items that don’t have price tags or contention upon the mood. He’s in at the present time. He does not engage with customers. The one positive is that inventory rotates frequently, so there’s usually something new to browse. However, pricing feels inconsistent, with similar items sometimes priced very differently. I still stop in occasionally because you never know what you’ll find,
